No sound . After installation of Internet sound "disappeared". No "local" measures worked ("frozen" adjustments on Sound and Volume). Were told that the problem might be in hardware (drive C-?, not sure). Were told to take Compaq XP 2005 to Best Buy (store) for repair.

Open the Device Manager by pressing the "Windows logo key+R key" simultaneously and typing devmgmt.msc in the Run dialog box and clicking OK.

Next, click on the plus sign next to the "sound, video and game controllers" and check if sound device is listed. If the sound device is listed then check if there is an exclamation mark visible beside the audio device.

If an exclamation mark is visible beside the sound device then right click on it and click Uninstall. After uninstalling the sound device, restart the Computer for the changes to take effect. After restarting the Computer, download the audio driver from the manufacturer site and install it into the Computer.

The sound will start working normally in the Computer.

No sound on YouTube videosIf you don't hear sound on YouTube videos, please try the following steps:
  1. Adjust the volume control on your computer and speakers.
  2. Adjust the volume control located in the lower left corner of the YouTube Video Player.
  3. Restart your internet browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, etc.)
  4. Ensure that the volume is turned up on other video players, such as Quicktime, Real Player, or Windows Media player, as this might affect the video player sound.
If you still have no sound after trying the steps above, you may want to try the steps below:
  1. Install the latest version of Adobe Flash (necessary for streaming YouTube videos) after removing any old versions you've installed. Learn how to install the most recent version of Adobe Flash player.
  2. Allow third-party Flash content on your computer by visiting the Adobe Flash Global Storage Settings Panel and following the instructions. Once this is complete, close all browser windows and try re-playing the Live Event.
Please be advised that this action stores a Flash cookie on your computer. Flash enables this by default upon install.
  3. Check your Antivirus and Firewall software to see if you're blocking third-party Flash content.

I am not hearing any sound at all though i have increased every volume buttom

You check your system information if sound driver was installed, type dxdiag in your run command. Wait till a tool bar about your system info will appear then check your sound driver if installed. If it was not installed. you have to install a sound driver. Look at your sound card installed and download from internet any necessary sound card driver compatible to your sound card hardware and mother board. Just try this,. I have solved many computers by following this procedure.
