Hi.
The filter is arching. Try first cleaning the filter, dust may cause arching. If that does not help, then parts had been damaged by arching. Usually the filter and more parts must be replaced.
If the model is post 2007, to get parts or repair contact Ionic Breeze support. Here contact page.
If the model was manufactured before 2007, read below, in that case I suggest not proceeding with the repair.
I want to call attention on the fact that several of old Ionic Breeze models are not
being manufactured anymore because of health concerns. New model use a
completely different technology. Parts for old models that raised concerns are not distributed anymore.
I suggest contacting manufacturer,
if parts are not available, then the purifier was among the ones
related to health concer. In that case I suggest replacing the ionic
purifier with a different air purifier.
Please read the article below:

I posted a solution to a similar problem I had with my Ionic Breeze GP. I was able to replace a bad switch and get the unit working again. Please check the following Fixya article for details on my fix:

Remove the grid assembly.
Remove the 4 screws holding the top on.
Gently remove the top as there are wires connected to it.
Once removed, find the microswitch assembly on the side. There will be 2 green wires going to this assy board (PCB).
Examine the bottom of this board. On both my units, the PCB wascorroded badly on the trace that runs from the center lead to the wireconnection. This will cause the microswitch to quit working.
What I did was soldered a wire from the center contact of themicroswitch (center piece coming through the board. There should be alarge solder pool) to the wire connection at the edge of the board. This just 'goes around' the corroded PCB trace.
Worked fantastic on both ionic breezes and took about 5 minutes for thesecond one. The first one took over 2 hours just to find the problem.
I hope this helps.....good luck...thanks for rating my effort....the Fang.

You can purchase a bulb for the GP on ebay for under $11, which is really a
good price considering what you would have paid from Sharper Image.
Installation is easy, you just pull up on the tab on the bottom of the filter
and pull up. When you are looking at the bulb, turn it 1/4 turn, (2
clicks) and pull it out. That is all there is to it. Item Number: 220444965077
SOURCE: It emits a metallic burning odor.
The trouble began in 2003 when Consumer Reports magazine published a report claiming the expensive air cleaners don't clean air. The magazine later claimed its tests showed that Sharper Image's Ionic Breeze Quadra Silent Air Purifier and four other units also release potentially unhealthy levels of ozone.
