SOURCE: error code on display, L1 or 1L flashing. What is
L1 or L1-00 indicates Scanner movement failure. The scanner is the part under the glass that lights up and moves back and forth. So if you lift up the feeder so you can see the glass, turn the machine off for a few seconds then back on. Watch the movement of the scanner. It should move right and inch or two then back to the left. If all goes well the copier should come to ready. Lay a piece of paper on the glass and press the print button to watch the scanner movement. If it binds up or does not scan correctly there are 2 possibilities.
1) your scanner lock is engaged and is preventing the scanner from moving. Check the clear plastic dial located under the far left upper side of the copier, near where the paper exits the machine. Make sure it is in the unlocked position.
2) Your scanner rail is dirty and dry. This rail can be seen under the glass towards the back of the copier. The scanner rides on this rail. It is very common for these to get dirty and for the grease to dry up causing the scanner to freeze up on the rail. The glass must be removed and the rail cleaned and lubricated.
Just power off then on the copier to reset.

SOURCE: Flashing L1 Display
L1:Indicates that the Main PWB sensed that the carriage did not leave home after power up or after start is pressed
You may have a bad scan motor, Fuses do blow on those.
Also check for the lamp carriage binding on something.
But as the fault states, the machine is not seeing the lamp moving forward .

L1 has two meanings a. Copy lamp not lighting. Check it and replace if faulty. b. Scanner is locked. Unlock from the lock lever on top of exit tray or manually move the scanner and check where it is jamming.
