Question about Whirlpool GD5SHAX Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Frigidaire side by side suppose to be frost free

The freezer side of my side by side looks just like one of those old time freezers that you had to defrost yourself. Why? We had to take the doors off to get it in my home. If you let the door shut on it's own, the freezer door will slightly open.

I do not have too much info but if you slam the door on your refig side it can cause the freezer to open air is the issue if there is a block of ice on the back wall of the freezer you have a defrost issue you either have have a bad bimetal or defrost control board issue the bimetal is located on the evaporator and the control board is in right hand corner of the refig near the damper area wher the cold air comes in from the freezer if you have cleared the ice out of freezer and you still have frost make sure your door gaset is sealing properly that can cause frost to help the freezer door from poping open make sure there is some weight in the freezer door fill the selfs up on the door itself and make sure the unit is as level as possible

I have a problem with my s75438dt,the fridge as stopped working

If defrost heaters in freezer stop operating during defrost cycle, ice builds up around coils and blocks cool air from being blown to refrigerator side. If ice you need to defrost with heat and replace heaters. Remove rear freezer wall and look for solid ice covering coils. Also push freezer door switch closed while keeping door open and determine if fan is working.

Kenmore 106 56666500 not staying cold intermittantly?Does this sound like a defrost thermostat problem?

Look into the freezer and at the rear wall does it have frost building like the photo HERE If yes you will need to manually defrost the freezer with a hair drier or by placing a bucket of hot water inside the freezer and closing the door. Remove the rear wall of your freezer and see if the defrost heater and the defrost thermostat are good. This is the defrost heater part number=> 2323198 Defrost Heater Assembly The defrost thermostat part number is 2319914 Defrost Thermostat If both test OK the next part is found inside the fresh food compartment and behind the control panel=> 2313172 Main Control Board I am here to answer any questions you have, Thanks Sea Breeze

Fridge not cooling freezer is

Your problem is one or more parts of the defrost system is malfunctioned and in return your problem arises. There are three parts to the system, the defrost timer or in some cases control board, defrost thermostat also known as a bi-metal, and the defrost heater. The defrost system is set up to operate as so. The defrost timer or control board will turn the machine off, in some cases every 8 hours, some 12. During this time period the defrost heaters, located behind the freezer wall and rest underneath the evaporator, yet wires to them run up the side of it, are energized and emit heat that raises upward to melt the ice that has formed on the evaporator coils. The bi-metal or defrost thermostat is at the top of the evaporator. When the heat from the heater starts to reach the bi-metal, it breaks the circuit turning the heater off. The whole purpose of this is because the freezer cool the refridgerator side by drawing air across the coils and blowing to the other side via the evap fan motor. In my opinion, if you change one part of the defrost system change them all because usually when one part fails another will follow, so save yourself the time and the food loss, the cost difference is minute.

REFRIGERATOR IS NOT COLD

If the freezer side is working and the refrigerator is not, its either your evaporator fan motor in the freezer side isn't running, or a defrost system problem. Open the freezer door to listen for the fan, and at the same time look to see if you have a build of ice on the back freezer wall. If you do, there is no circulation from the freezer side to cool the ref. The defrost system consist of a defrost timer, defrost thermostat and defrost heaters. The heaters rarely go out, so if you have to change the timer change the defrost thermostat as well since its a cheap part anyway. timer part number is 2188159 and the thermostat part number is 2196155.(called a bi-metal thermostat.)

Our 4 year old GE side by side frig suddenly warmed to 64 degrees. Freezer stopped freezing and is at 43. Motor is running.

Really need to know what motor(s) are running (compressor, evap fan inside freezer compartment, condenser fan under fridge)?? Of course, check your temperature (thermostat) settings. Side-by-sides usually have 2 of them. They should be labled for refridgerator and freezer. The freezer control usually only opens a baffle from the freezer compartment to the refridge compartment. The refrigerator temp control is the one that controls the compressor on-off cycles and the temp of refrig compartment (this keeps the refrig compartment from freezing the milk and cokes) If the freezer control/baffle is set too far open, this will cause the refrig temp control to shut off too soon for the freezer temp to get low enough. These controls can get bumped out of the correct setting accidently from time to time.
To check the following, the fridge has to be running, or in a condition where it "should be" running: If compressor is running (condenser fan should be too), check if evaporator fan (inside freezer) is running. Open (freezer) door and hold door light switch in when you check evaporator fan operation (some fans stop when door is open) If it is not running you may have a bad evaporator fan motor. It could also be a bad defrost timer, causing the evaporator (also inside back of freezer) to ice-up. This blocks the air flow over evap. Also, there is a defrost terminator switch on the evaporator coil that stops the defrost cycle when coil is clear of ice/frost (but timer hasn't ended defrost cycle). If it is defective, that could also keep the fridge from going into the defrost cycle, or taking it out too soon. If it is the timer, change the defrost terminator as well. Depending on how handy you are, you may be able to check/change any of these parts yourself. If you don't know much about elecrical stuff, you should leave it to a repair tech. Hope this helps.

Refrigerator and freezer not cooling/freeding

Possibly a defrost circuit problem -

1) Bad defrost thermostat
2) Bad defrost heater
3) Bad defrost timer
4) Failed evaporator fan motor.

Look for frost accumulated inside the louvers at the back panel, top and bottom. If you see it, remove food from freezer and put in ice chest. Take out shelves, get hair dryer and warm the backside of the freezer, directing air down the louvers. Then leave to sit for 4-6 hours with the freezer door open. Put towels in the bottom of the freezer to catch any melted ice.
After period of time, plug unit back in and power the unit back up. Once you know it's cooling, empty ice chests back into freezer.

If there is a problem in any of the above components, then it will show up in 3-4 weeks witht he same problem again.

Refridgerator constantly beeping. I have a Samsung SRS615DP about 3yrs . Constantly beeping on fridge side. Seals look very clean with no dirt etc. Looked at Samsung site but no help. I live in Mandurah...

Look to the freezer side for the possible problem. If the freezer evaporator coil is freeing up due to a defect in the defrost system the refrigerator temperature will be the first place it will show. Look for frost build-up on the freezer back wall.

Freezer is producing"snow" and freezer burning everything

AFTER A DEFROST,HAVE A GOOD LOOK AT THE DOOR RUBBER. IT MUST BE 100% SEALED FOR A FREEZER. (SHOULD ALSO HEAR A SLIGHT VACUME WHEN DOOR IS SHUT WHEN UP NTO TEMP).ALSO MAKE SURE MOTOR IS SWITCHING OFF AT +/- 20C (TEMP).IF ALLOWED TO RUN CONTINUOUSLY TEMP WILL PULL DOWN TO CREATE EXCESS FROST.
