Installed new cartridges in Canon i850 and printer seems as though it is printing but does not grab the paper from paper feeder and gives an error (no number). Instructs me to press REsume button and power off if not working but still not printing. Was working fine before changing cartridges.

I changed the USB port that the printer was connected to and... VOILA...works like a charm with the new cartridges installed. Not sure what the problem was as windows recognized the printer and the drivers were correctly installed before the new cartridges even came into the picture.

Lexmark X1270. The paper goes to right and can not feed to print.

Leading cause of paper jams is debris/foreign objects that accidentally fell into the paper feed area.

1. Remove the sheets of paper from the feeder.

2. Grab a flashlight and look inside for any debris.

3. If you're willing and physically able, you may also turn the printer over. Any debris should just freely roll out from the feeder.

4. If feeder is clear, place the printer back on the table, open the printer cover and remove the cartridges.

5. Check the cartridge area for any obstructions/debris that could cause this error or problem.

6. If cartridge area is clear, close the cover.

7. Unplug and re-plug the printer into the power outlet to reset it.

8. When the printer turns on, reinsert the cartridges and load some paper. Try to print again.

Printer will not print when media type is plain paper. WHy? It will print on media type photo paper pro. Printer is Canon i850

Best probable cause here is the feeder sensor has wron out and its not detecting reqular stock. In this case I would humble replace the printer as a whole as it will only get worse over time. A new feeder $45 bucks labor = out the window. The easy way out of this is to try cleaning the unit really good but not all the time is that functional.

Thanks and please be considerate and leave postive votes and feedback

More likely especially if the paper was pulled out backwards, that the paper sensor just before the platen roller is bent or broken. When you pull paper back up thru the feeder it gets caught on this sensor tab and it gets bent, holding it up just like a paper scrap would. If it's broken or you can't locate it to bend it straight, you will need a shop to repair your printer.

I get a series of blinking orange lights and a green pause.

Hi Mike, the paper feed switch doesn't feed paper... it switches the paper source from the top feeder to the bottom tray. Do you have paper in both? How many times does the orange light flash in between the greens? That tells the error.

Printer says it doesn't have paper when it does

Try to put more paper once. Try to check the paper feeder that they are all well set. Try to reboot printer and windows/OS. Than try to print again. You can also try to cancel all the printing jobs pending and than rebooting and trying printing again. But make sure all the flips, tops, lids and other small stuffs of printers are not lose.

Thanx

Printer will not print black ink

Chewbacca08's solution gave me an idea. I set the print setting to photos paper (even though I was trying to print on plain paper) and IT WORKED. It's worth a shot before you trash a perfectly good printer.
