Older stoves didn't have electric start so pilot stays lit on burners when power goes therefore burner will still light. Oven won't work since it probably needs electric power or has electric starter.

Warning!
To avoid personal injury or even death, always disconnect your
appliance from its power source--that is, unplug it or break the
connection at the circuit breaker or fuse box--before you do any
troubleshooting or repair work on your appliance. Also, because some
components may have sharp edges, use caution while working on your
appliance.
It sounds like you might have a clogged burner plate or manifold. You should call a certified gas repair service. This could be very dangerous, even deadly.
Hi, It sounds like the ignitor has gone bad. Remove the floor panel in the oven and locate the ignitor fastened to the burner. There should be 120V going to the ignitor harness. If you have voltage but no ignition, change the ignitor. I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further. Vic
http://www.geeksquad.fixya.com/ThreadView.aspx?prdid=53999&thid=358497 Gas oven won't light (by 2 users) Posted by MBeird on Jan 18, 2008 Can hear the clicking of the auto starter when starting the oven, but it stops after 5 seconds and then the oven simply fills with gas. Broiler still works fine as do the stove top burners.Any thoughts? Good question? You may have a plugged up burner and or the pipes or jets may not be adjusted correctly and it could be your igniteron the gas range because it is not igniting the spark to create the flame. You may want to have it check out with an authorized service repair tech to make sure it is safe and will function well. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local appliance dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
