To fix, you will need the following 2 links and Windows Media Player 10 (WMP 11 is not compatible with the VM-500)

http://a.b.vcdz.free.fr/vcdz/Virgin_Player_5gb_VM-500_setup.rar
http://a.b.vcdz.free.fr/vcdz/PP5020.MI4

The first link is a zip fileoh dear this hard drive is not working - 2_bing.gif that contains the setup file for the VM-500 along with the user guide that explains how to resolve the "Oh dear! this player is a piece of junk" (okay, so I ad libbed). The 2nd link is for a critical file missing from the set up. The solution is basically 3 steps:
1) Plug in your VM-500 into your PC and right click to select "Properties" and then select "Format" to clear everything out of the device to start from scratch.
2) After downliading the zip file from the "setup" link above, unzip and run the setup.exe program on your PC. It will detect the VM-500, install the firmware and the system folder and subfolders.
3) Using the 2nd link above, download the file PP5050.mi4 to your PC and then copy it to the system folder (not the subfolders) in your VM-500.
That's it! Your VM-500 should be all fixed and should bring up the "device tour" tutorial. -Hank

When i go to admin tools my simpletech 250gb hard drive does not show up. when i go to device manager it and says its working properly.i tried to populate the hard drive says its unreadable.is it broken?do...

I am assuming this is on a Windows system.
Try looking at it with disk management.
That should tell you that it is there and may offer you options.

Broken or a virus? Probably not.
I'd be looking at the USB cable. Is it the one that came with the drive?
Some cables only pass power, and not the data lines, so although the device manager says it is working properly, that may only mean it thinks the driver is correctly installed
And the cable may be faulty.

Oh, and I forgot, is the drive powered with a working power supply? And switched on? I sometimes forget that but too.

My hard drive won't show up on the mac

Mac OS can not repair a non-native partition like NTFS and will not mount a drive with errors. Repair the drive on the native system and this should resolve the problem.

CANON IR 5000i

Uh oh! You probably will need a new hard drive for your 5000. A new drive will have to be installed by a tech, then formatted and new system software installed. The E602 with the 000001 sub code indicates a hard disk drive failure.

Simpletech 320gb hard drive

the hard drive inside of the external device is damaged. probably the drive head scratched one or more of the platters inside of the drive. this is a common occurance with laptops and computers when they take a dive off of a desk.

need to either get a replacement drive or another external hard drive.
