SOURCE: Coleman Powermate 5000 no electricity, runs fine

Hello;
Take a look at your outlets. Some of these units use pretty cheap outlets and short out. You will know if it is bad when you look at it. Hope this helps.
Thanks;

SOURCE: My coleman powermate generator will start but will not generate.

The voltage regulator controls the output. You will need to check that first.

SOURCE: I have a Coleman Powermate 5500 Generator. It is

This engine was not built with quiet in mind, it was built to be cheap. upgrading the exhaust is your best bet and likely the cheapest. Talk to a small engine shop about the possibility of using a muffler from an ATV.

Super Trap makes a fantastic muffler, if it will fit your application (most do). A link has been provided at the end. When you are looking at the various options, you will notice that a rating in db units. Reducing noise by 3db is half the original noise level.

if you can, go with the SuperTrapp. If still noisy (probably won't be), then add on the resonator as well. Downside to using aftermarket is that you will have an exhaust stack / system that sticks out the side of the generator. Upside is that you will be able to think quietly about how much the exhaust sticks out.

And no, I don't have any connection with Jack's, they are just the first hit that came up. Now that you know that something is available, you can do more research on it.

My Coleman 3750 generator normally starts on the 1 st or 2 nd pull. It will not keep running unless continue tom choke it?????

You have a lean fuel condition. Your carb is slightly clogged. By choking the unit you are manually changing the air/fuel ratio to richen up the mix. Your carb needs to be removed and cleaned. Hope this info helped.

Check rotor again and measure to see if you have DC voltage on the brushes while running. If no then suspect capacitor

Coleman powermate 3750 wont start

Check your oil level and add a little if it's low. Don't overfill. Also, make sure the unit is level. You may want to change the spark plug. Depending on the hours you've used it or the length of time since you've used it may have taken a toll on the plug.
Beyond that, have a professional look at it.
Good luck!

No charge

You'll need to test to see if you are getting voltage from the brushes. This is a live test so, using something like alligator clips or such on the metal bracket of the brushes for your volt meter is a good idea. Simply start your generator with the volt meter leads attached to the the brush holders or exposed electrical connection to the brushes and see if they are producing electricity (120vac or greater). No voltage then it's your brushes, field, or stator. If they are good check the output of the voltage regulator. If it to does not kick down any voltage above 120 then it's your problem.

Note most cheap generators do not have a voltage regulator. All generators depend on the correct engine rpm to achieve normal voltage. 3600 rpm is the correct speed on a two pole generator to produce 110 to 125vac and 60hz (normally found on gas generators). 1800 rpm is the correct speed for four pole generators (normally found on diesel generators). You may set your rpms slightly higher to ensure that it's maintained underload ie 3750 for gas. Diesels usually have very good governors and don't need to be set higher.

Generator wont put out enough voltage, only get 107 volts, is this a voltage reg. problem

This problem is either that the engine RPM is too low (most likely), or that there is something amiss in the voltage regulation. Get yourself a DMM that measures Hz, plug it into the output and see if you get 61.5 Hz, if not look for the adjustment on the governor spring. On some Powermates this is a screw that pressed on the governor arm, on others it's a little tab the governor spring attaches to that you bend. Do this at no load. FWIW 61.5 Hz is also 3750 RPM of the engine.
