I'm having the same problem... no instructions came with my humidifier and there is nothing online to help. I don't know where the demineralization cartridge goes or how to fill the tank.

I have figured out how to fill this thing. Turn the cap where the thing that you push to let the water in takes no time at all

I've been having problems with this unit since purchase in December 2007.

To fill, unscrew the cap with the spring loaded plunger. It may be tight, but it has two slots which you can turn like a screwhead using something wide enough (eg, a spoon) for leverage.

My problem is that this thing leaks badly. The fit of the cartridge is terribly designed. The one supplied is different from the one depicted in the unhelpful manual, which is silent on where the cartridge should fit. It will fit in one spot, but it will not sit flush with floor of the unit; it rocks and the water holding top rocks with it. The supplied cartridge appears to be an attempted and unsuccessful fix of a problematic design.

Even without the cartridge, this unit still leaks.

A web search shows others complaining about leaking. Hate to say it, but another example of lousy American design... but it sure is pretty!

Haven't been able to raise the manufacturer "Kaz" on the phone.

Good luck!

Its the worst design to fill it up that you could imagine. i was lost for a 1/2 hr trying to figure it out. well that 'easy to fill' feature on it means that you have to flip it upside down, balance it on its awkward shaped top, press in that spring loaded piece on the underside with one hand, and fill it (takes forever) with your other free hand in the same spot (apparently it opens up a valve that allows water in).

Why does it make a constant hissing sound?

The fill valve inside the humidifier is leaking. This is a common failure as the valve clogs with mineral content from the water.

Our HCM-640bw Honeywell humidifier will leak water onto the floor. If I fill the tank and let it sit without turning it on, no leaking. When it runs for about two hours it leaks bad. Any ideas on how to...

Found a hairline crack in the water canister. Had to locate by filling the canister and waiting for a couple of minutes for water droplets to form outside the canister. This ever so slight crack allowed air to enter the chamber and made changes to water dispensing rate which overfilled the resevoir over time ( hours). The cracks were not visible under 10X magnification without the water droplets.

Honeywell HE220A water not reaching humidifier

Replace the Valve on the unit. Check the small filter inside of it where the waterline attaches first. If its clear and you have lots of flow from the 1/4" line the replace the valve.

I usually just balance the tray upside down on top of the base and fill the edges with vinegar. You could also put the the tray in a bowl filled with vinegar and submerge the whole thing.

Continous ware flow on Honeywell HE220A Humidifier

I am having the same problem. I have had my humidifier for about 5 years now and I just started having the problem where the water continuously flows through the solenoid. I took apart the solenoid by removing the fittings from both sides. When I did that, I noticed that there was a hole in the metal that allowed me to see through to the other side. Apparently, it had corroded and and broken through, allowing the water to pass through the solenoid without really going through the valve within the solenoid. There are several sites that sell replacements for about $70, which is not cheap, but cheaper than buing a new humidifier for $120. Here is one site I found:
