You can demagnetize it yourself if you have a friend in the TV repair business who will loan you a demagnetizer. ...or you may be able to buy an inexpensive one on-line. A TV demagnetizer is basically a coil of wire approximately 12-15 inches in diameter...but don't try to make one yourself...it must be properly insulated for safety. To use it, you plug it in, turn it on and hold it in front of your TV screen...then begin to move it around the screen using a slow steady motion...for at least a minute...and then slowly pull it away. Do not shut off the demagnetizer until it is at least 5 or 6 feet away from the screen or you'll make the color problem even worse.

Most tv's degauss themselves when turned on so turning off and on a few times might help. Leave about 15 minutes between on off cycles and keep on trying untill you see improvement. You could also get hold of an old tape eraser, plug that into the mains and starting from a foot or so away try to brush the badly coloured parts away without coming to close to the screen.

I forgot the line where networkmagic said '. Do not shut off the demagnetizer' Indeed do not switch off before you are 5 or 6 feet away from the screen :)

When using component cables(red, green, blue )

The series of the cable should go green red blue into the back. if you put the green in the red and the red into the green it give the TV a red base to go off of for the picture so everything is red. The reason the green cable won't is because it transmits a black and white picture which allows it a nice base to add the green and red to.

My Daewoo TV just went to all purple and green

Do you have speakers near the screen like stereo speakers ? if so move them away see if that helps , you will need to shut off tv for a while once speakers are moved , if that dosent fix it , u may need to adjust the 3 nobs which are behind the tv, you will need to remove the back of the tv cover , please remember safety , the should be 3 knobs which u can turn , one is for blue ,green , and red , adjust these until the screen is normal again, magnet's are the biggest cause of this problem , as a last resort for home fix it , u can sometimes use a magnet on the front of the screen to shift the colours around , i have used this method a few times and its worked ! , but its not reccomended and i suggest u do this after all else fails ,

I have a bush colour tv and there is a blue, green, red colour wash right across the picture so people''s faces look half blue, green red....sort of as if there is a rainbow across the screen.. i do not have...

It sounds like your TV may need degausing.
Is your TV situated near to any loudspeakers or other devices with large magnets inside them? Or has anyone been near your TV screen with a magnet???
You need to try to get the screen demagnetised (degaussed). Many TV engineers have a degausing coil that could do this. It only takes around 20 seconds at most.
Some TV's like Mitsubishi have a DG button on the remote, that does this function without the need to call out an engineer! It only needs one press of the button every few years!

Sony wega 28 inch colours wrong, circle on screen

It sounds that there is some magnet near by TV that is affecting picture tube. Please remove any extra speaker or any thing that has strong magnet inside, unplug TV for 20-30 minutes, replug back in, turn it ON, hope that will solve your TV problem.
Thanks.

Red, green and blue colours diveded on my TV

ok well "tube" tellys as they are called use an electro magnet to keep the picture stable and colours correct its called gaussing now if you have a speaker or something magnetic nearby it will stuff up the colors but only normally producing colors like purple, green, or white
if you have colors across the screen (that aren't caused by magnetic force) then you need to take it to a repairer or decide wether or not to buy a new one this issue can turn out to be quite hard to fix and can be expensive the different colored electron guns may be burning or burnt out causing pale color or it could be as simple as a power transistor in the H.V supply has shorted out..and causing power issues to the tube.
hope this helps,ben

COLOUR PROBLEMS

Greetings!

This sounds like a degaussing (named after 19th century scientist Carl Friedrich Gauss) problem. This usually occurs one of several ways:

1. The TV fell down and went "boom".
2. Junior held a magnet up to the screen when you weren't looking.
3. There is a large, unshielded speaker near the set.
4. The TV was rotated in relation to the North/South magnetic poles of the Earth while it was running (yes, really).

All televisions have a degaussing coil built into them which is activated momentarily every time you turn on your TV. This typically will cure all minor anomolies over the course of a few days. However for a severe one like you have, it will probably require a trip to your friendly repair shop. I, personally, do not charge anyone to perform this service because it takes, literally, 5-10 seconds to degauss a TV. I simply ask them to remember me next time they go to buy a new TV or need service work. I can't say that your technician will do the same.

In the case of the first instance of the TV falling down and going "boom". If it fell with enough force to warp the shadow mask built into the picture tube, then all of the above information means nothing. The set will require a picture tube replacement to cure the problem.

Hope this helps,
Rob

Colour problem

6b5ee7e.png You may have a convergence problem. Here are some of the most common symptoms.

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick email and they will put one together for you. Their kits includes photo instruction guides, original Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Check the proximity of magnetic fields. Large Speakers near the TV for example will cause colour distortion.

Wii gone black and white, no colour

I bought a wii a few days ago and like everybody else mine too was in black and white with a grainy picture. I have a Panasonic lcd flat screen and thought I had connected it corrected, I got somebody out to have a look at it and found out there are some connections on the side of the TV which I hadn't even noticed before, once I put the red white and yellow leads in these and set the TV to AV3 everything is in perfect colour. Hope this works for some of you.
