Cannot "save" quark 6.5 files, have to "save as" and rename

I transferred my quark 6.5 software to my new macbook pro, running snow leapord. Every time I try to save my quark file it gives me the message the project is locked. Changes cannot be saved.

Have you tried the following

it could be that the file is locked go the file and single click on it go to the file menu and select get info. see if the file is locked, if it is unlock it

or do a "save as" in Quark and rename the file

it may be that when you have transferred your files that the permissions are not set properly. do the same as the file is locked above but look to see whether you are the owner and whether you have read write permissions. If you don't change or add yourself as the owner.

Hope this helps.

Running Mac OS X (Snow Leopard)....Quark 7 will not launch due to damaged application preference....says to delete file and relaunch....that does not work... Also....when Quark was working on OS X (Snow...

It could be that your quark preferences have corrupted, I would go to your users folder then go into the library folder, then the preferences folder and then the quark folder within the quark folder there should be a file called "XPress Preferences.prf" move this to the trash (But do not delete it yet). When you open quark next it will recreate the preference file and hopefully that will sort it out. If this has corrected the problem you can then deleted the file in the trash. Please note that you will have to reset your preferences once you open Quark again.

Hope this helps.

The application preferences file is damaged. Please remove it and re-launch QuarkExpress [297] Where is the preferences file located? (Version 9, Windows 7)

The preferences file will be in the User\AppData folder.
C:\Users\ your user name\AppData\ Local\Quark\QuarkXPress 7 is the location in Vista with version 7 and it should have a similar location in Windows 7.

C:\Users\ your user name\AppData\ Local\Quark\QuarkXPress 9 is likely. (AppData has 3 folders - Local, Local Low and Roaming.)

You should not delete the folder. Instead rename it. Right click on the folder and select Rename. Then name it
old_QuarkXPress 9.

This could be a hidden file. If you click Start and then enter Show hidden folders. Then put the bullet on Show hidden files, folders and drives. Then click Apply and OK.

If moving the AppData location to another folder doesn't solve the problem, check if there is a Preferences file in the Program Files folder (
C:\ Program Files\ Quark\ QuarkXPress 7.x for the old version.) If the new version is built for the 64-bit OS, it might be in the x64 Program File folder. Again rename the file if it is in that directory.

I hope this helps.

I want to retrieve data from a Powerbook 3400c via ethernet. I have a Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard and an iMac running OS10.4

I think the 3400c has a Firewire port, which would allow it to startup in "target disk mode" where it would be just like an external hard drive. That is, hold T at startup to get TDM. I have a Pismo with Firewire but I think the color 3400 is older.
With MacBooks and OS10.5 or later (you are at 10.6) you can do this with USB, also. So it might use the MacBook as the external drive of the PowerBook to transfer files in Finder.
Otherwise, you can turn on AppleShare on both and use Ethernet to transfer files slower.
