E74 error one red light appeared on my x box last night, e-mailed microsoft who are trying to tell me warranty expired in june which is incorrect manufacturing date on console is 2007, any ideas how this can be fixed, could wait a while on microsoft getting back to me. Any ideas welcome!
E74: I/O Hardware Error - HSIO related, could be crc error, or
many things: There is high chance it's a scaler chip problem (the "ANA"
or "HANA" chip near the AV cable connection) it can also be caused by a
faulty AV cable so check that first. Microsoft covers this error under
their 3-year warranty, this is availble to anyone who hasn't modified
their console. contact MS to get a free replacement console before
attempting to fix this yourself. Failing that this error In some cases
it is a problem with the GPU and may be repairable by doing the x-clamp
replacement (see error E18)
E18: Error in the "Digital Backbone" (CPU/GPU/RAM), this is usually caused by a cold solder joint between the GPU and the mainboard. There are two theories to fixing this one deals with the "X" clamps that hold down the chips. The other involves re-Heating the chips. DO
NOT attempt either of these if your console is still under warranty. If
your console is still under warranty return it to the store where it
was purchased or call MS to have it replaced.
Found this video in youtube explaining how to fix it as workaround.

Hey there sounds like you might have the red ring of death. Which is usually a hardware failure.
1. Try turning your Xbox 360 on and off. 2. Make sure all your cords and cables are firmly plugged in. 3. Once you have tried all of those trouble shooting tips, turn on your xbox and see if you get an error screen. 4. This will usually be a black screen with multiple languages on it. on the upper left or right corner a letter E followed by a number will appear. 5. If it is an E74 error, then call 1-800-4my-Xbox 6. Microsoft has extended the warranty for Xbox 350 with the E47 error
Don't worry if your warranty has expired they will extend it when you call.
generally this defines a general hardware failure, one red light does not mean anything in specific. if your console is under warranty you should contact microsoft. if your xbox is not under warranty you can try the "RROD FIX", or send it to a company who will fix it for you. alternatively you can sell the broken xbox on ebay, they seem to go for a good amount to someone who is willing to fix it.
There has been a lot of reports about how the "The New Xbox Experience" update causes errors to appear. If your console has already gotten to the "3-red flashing lights" stage, the best option would be to send it in. Seeing on how you bought your console on Dec. 2006, the three year warranty is probably expired, but call just in case. If not the repair will cost $100 I think. One other option that will not void your warranty is the "Towel Trick". This is where you wrap your xbox in a towel, turn it on, and then let it run for about 30 mins. Afterwards, let it cool down and then boot it up. I don't recommend this as it overheats the entire console and not just the problem you are trying to fix. But if your warranty is up, why not? Just don't tell support that you did it. :)
We rent out a hundred or so of these consoles.
Three red lights means the cpu has moved away from it's socket.
Very common in the earlier models. (caused by excessive heat)
Microsoft has agreed to fix this problem free of charge even if the warranty has expired.
I read the e-mail Harvey Norman recieved but you should be able to check it out on x-box site or check where you purchased the console.

hi, it sounds like a case for microsoft. but a word of advice. you can upgrade your warranty first if it has run then phone them up a week or two later to say your system has developed a fault but i didnt tell you this. ha
You don't need any money mate. Microsoft recently extended their warranty to 3 years for the three red lights problem. all you have to do is get in touch with microsoft and tell them about the three red lights, and they should either repair your X Box or they will replace it with a new one.
Good luck mate
