The brushbar is not spinning.

There are a number of reasons why your brush roller has stopped moving. General maintenance to your vacuum is crucial and will help it work at peak performance.

First things first lets focus on the brush roller. Unplug the vacuum and turn it on its side. Look for any noticeable clumps of debris or hair strands that may be caught in the brush roller. Remove these obstructions, probably best to do so with a scissor if it's hair or long pieces of carpet fibers. After removing the debris try manually rotating the brush roller to uncover other hidden clogs. Another thing to take note of is the condition of the bristles on the roll itself. Are they loose or worn down? These are signs that your brush roller is in need of replacing.

While checking out your brush roll you might as well take a look at your vacuums belt. Your belt should be replaced about every three months. After regular usage, the belt will stretch out, lessening the tension on the brush roller. Lesser tension diminishes the brush roller's turn rate and speed. If the belt feels loose then it certainly is affecting your vacuums suction as well as your brush roll not moving at all.

1. Plastic Burning Smell - This means that there is friction in a plastic part of your Dyson. The only place this will be coming from is the BrushBar. The brushbar has jammed somehow. The smell arises as the rubber belt is still trying to turn the plastic brushbar but the brushbar is not moving. To solve the problem you will need to unscrew the soleplate using a 2 pence piece, this is done by inserting the 2 pence piece into the 3 plastic screws on the underneath of the Dyson. Turn the screws a quarter anticlockwise. You can then remove the soleplate. You will probably see that there is a build up of debris by the brushbar. This is more common on The Animal version as pet hair mixed with dust gets stuck in here, especially if the machine has been used on a damp or wet surface. So clean this area out and then try manually rotating the brush bar in each direction. If you have been using the machine for too long with the burning smell then it is likely that your brushbar will be melted where the belt attaches to it. If this is the case then you will need to get a new brushbar. If the brushbar is not too damaged check that the belt has not broken. If the belt has not broken then replace the soleplate. Turn the screws a quarter in a clockwise direction. Should your belt be broken then please re-post and we will show you how to sort this. Thank you

Could very well be the belt. When cleaning the brush it is a good idea to add some WD40 at the ends where the plastic pieces are that hold the brush in the vacuum. The brush needs to be able to move freely around the plastic pieces. Add the WD40 and rotate the plastic pieces around the brush until they move freely. Reassemble making sure the belt is put in correctly so the brush moves in the right direction.

My Dyson started making a loud noise when in "carpet" mode. After reading a ton of forums I thought it was the clutch assembly. Got a new one on eBay for a great price. HOWEVER this did not resolve the issue. I realized the beater bar was not spinning or was slipping. I thought I cleaned it all out but realized you need to take the beater bar out and pop the end cap and clean out the INSIDE of the beater bar (tons of lint and cat hair). I additionally sprayed WD40 in there.

It spins great now and in the end I think that's all I had to do was clean out the cat hair build up inside the beater bar. But now I have a new clutch & belts too. Hopefully won't have issues anytime soon.

These are not real powerfull vacuums (I know not what you have heard) but make sure bottom plate is fully sealed I see customers put these on wrong and the brush does not make good contact

If your Dc14 is all floors it will have A clutch fitted this is easy to determine just stand in front of your machine look down at the left hand side there will be a coloured knob on the side e.g. blue.yellow,green,purple this will have a pointer on it which when you pull handle back to vacuum must move to drive position you can rotate it by hand if it is stuck in park position ,
If there is no belts broken the brushes will now turn.
If they don’t the chances are one of the 2 belts have snapped.
You will then need Manuals to help you repair the problem.
