If you are handy,
1) Unplug unit from power outlet before you do anything.
2) Take the top off /remove - screws usually phillips on both sides.
3) You will probably find the tape of the VHS wrapped around or pulled out of the cassette so you could cut the tape and probably pull the VHS out of the unit.
4) This deck sounds like it will need some cleaning and attention.
Might be a good idea to take it into a qualified TV repair shop and mabe for a small fee they can clean it.

It sounds like it is set to a TV station and since all the analogue stations have now gone you will only get static. Without a remote you wan't be able to switch it. I suggest you either shop around for a replacement (try Curry's partmaster) or use a universal one.

E2 error

Just had the same E2 come up on my HSU-445. The only thing we could figure out was to try a different tape than the one that was in there when the error came up. That seemed to do the trick. Not sure how long that will work. Good luck.

Error message E4 and stuck tape

Yes with care. Simply remove the cover and with care unwrap the tape. If you must break the tape - but make sure all residual tape is cleanly removed. Re assemble and put a tape head cleaner through- following the instructions.
