WHIRLPOOL GOLD Model #GSW9545JQO, top load washing machine. After the wash cycle the machine in the "SPIN PAUSE" freezes and stops. By slamming the lid several times the cycle then continues to "OFF" If we want a secondary rinse, we sometimes have to slam the lid again to activate the cycle. Its taken additional and "harder" slams to activate the rinse/spin cycles. The washing cycle appears to be functioning satisfactorily. What could be the problem and is it a do-it-yourself job?

I am not a repair professional. I am just a 78 year old man who has been making his own repairs for about 50 years. Therefore the washer ID doesn't mean anything to me. I believe you have a bad lid switch. You can go to you tube and search for washer repair videos. You will be very pleasently surprised at the great step by step tutorials available there, Download them if you can, for future reference. Yes, it is a DIY job with the help of those videos. Sometimes they are slow to play, but believe me they are worth the wait. Be sure to disconnect the power before you start.

It sounds like you need a lid switch. Click on this http://www.partselect.com/PartDetail.aspx?Inventory=350434&SourceCode=1 it will take you to the part ou will need, It only has two screws and it plugs in, so it's not problem to change.
Before ordering, take a look at this part http://www.partselect.com/PartDetail.aspx?Inventory=348557&SourceCode=1 this is the lid strike. It's what pushes the lid switch. Make sure it's not broken. It should look just like this one. Some times the tip will break off and willbe to short to push the lid switch down far enough.

Good luck.

Washing machine does not drain during rinse cycle?

Turn timer to rinse cycle. let fill up and agitate. when it stops agitating it should pause then start to pump water out. After about 2 minutes it should pause for 3-5 seconds then start again and spin. If it starts the first time and never stops it will just continue to pump but no spin. The 3-5 second pause allows the transmission to shift to spin. If it does not do this the problem is your timer. You may need to do this a few times to verify the problem.

If that is not the problem it is likely that you need a new clutch. You will need a technician to install a new clutch for you

Washer will not spin

Your neutral drain is not locking in.
Let the timer advance to the final spin cycle. Once there it should have about a 5 second pause and the transmission spin gears will lock in. If no pause replace the timer. If you have the pause and still no spin replace the transmission.
My bet is on the timer.

Whirlpool top Loading washing machine won't spin on spin cycle

If the washer won't finish a spin cycle, it probably means that your timer went bad or stalled. You can take the control panel off and look at the contacts for scorching or corrosion.

Whirlpool ultimate care II stops during cycle

THe most likely cause for this is either the lid switch or the timer itself sticking.
