Well, it depends whether you'll use the printer as a Direct Thermal printer or as a thermal transfer printer. If it'll be a direct thermal printer, then you can use any direct thermal labels (up to 4" wide, which is the with of the printhead on the Datamax I-4208) without the need for any ribbons. If it'll be a thermal transfer printer, you can use thermal transfer labels, which would need ribbons. As for the kinds, you have a huge variety, you can use paper-based labels, synthetic labels (PPE, Vinyl, Tyvek, belt tags, jewelry tags), and even some kinds of card stock and satin.

Any Thermal Transfer or Direct Thermal label on a 3" i.d. roll with maximum o.d. of 8" and label width between 1" - 4". Thermal transfer labels require appropriate ribbon.

You probably need to adjust the leveling cam if you have not done so already. This is the green thumbscrew near the print mechanism.

SOURCE: why wont my datamax 4208 printer read the same

It will read and print the label format, but you need to download and choose a different driver for the other printer. Seagull Scientific makes the drivers for Datamax, so visit their site for the most recent versions. you will need to open your label format in your software, duplicate the label format and choose the new driver for the I-4212.

Zpl emulation with datamax i-4208

You can't, on this obsolete model. zpl is "Zebra Printer Language." This model of Datamax is dpl only ("Datamax Printer Language"). Most current models of Datamax printers are dpl and zpl compatible.

Problem with old datamax printer.

It sounds like you may not have the latest firmware. You should go to the Datamax website and download the latest firmware revision for your printer. http://www.datamaxcorp.com/software/ If it's not available on the website, you can call Datamax with your CID# and serial number and ask them to send you the latest firmware for that printer. This should hopefully clear up your problem.

Datamax i - 4208

If you use ms-access you must have installed the windows driver, therefore you must enable the cutter in the printer properties. Position fault is that it does not detect the label, must be press the FEED key or to calibrate, press the FEED key for 5 seconds to calibrate the sensor label.
