You can buy apliance spray paint, but sand it down clean first before spray painting it so the paint will adhere well to the surface.

The metal will have to be sanded smooth and clean.

Then you can apply some high-temperature appliance paint, available from places like Wal-Mart or Lowe's.

HI,
If you are able to spent money for a new Microwave then go for a new one.
If you are interested to repair and reuse the existing Microwave then keep on thing in mind, if you paint it then also it will not lasts for a long time as the metal underneath is rusted.

Thanks! just solved 2 of my westinghouse microwave problems from your site. Last question: the glass carosel squeaks as it goes around. Bought microwave @ garage sale - so maybe food leaked down...

It is more likely one of the little wheels is not turning causing the squeek. You might want to take the glass off and check the little wheels, because it will eventually cause a problem with the drive motor.

Bottom is rusted and when i try to cook something,

Since the cavity metal of the oven is chipped or charred, it will have to be sanded smooth and clean.

Then you can apply some high-temperature appliance paint, available from places like Wal-Mart or Lowe's.

If it is not repaired, the rust will worsen until the cavity is damaged beyond repair.

On the bottom of my microwave, the coating started "chipping" off and now there is a fairly large area that appears to be rusting and makes where the turntable wheels rest look really dirty. Is there...

This is often caused by spills and condensation.

The metal will have to be sanded smooth and clean.

You can use a wire brush and naval jelly to get rid of the rust.

If any rust remains, you can use Rust Reformer paint to stop the rust process, then sand it smooth when it's dry.

Then you can apply some high-temperature appliance paint, available from places like Wal-Mart or Lowe's.

Hello i have a problem with my microwave I used an abrasive cleaner on bottom of microwave under the turntable it has now started to rust at this stage surface rust only is it repairable

Yes you can, it is a painted surface correct? If so buy some rust inhibitor spay or primer and spary the bottom and then paint. Make sure you tape off any vents on the bottom before you do anything

I have a Spacesaver Microwave (manufactured 1988) that still seems to work ok, but I noticed on teh back wall under the glass tray the coating has rusted away. Should I continue to use this microwave?

Hi,

As long as the oven's metal bottom is sound underneath the rust, there isn't a problem. The cooking chamber walls are so thick and highly conducting that they reflect the microwaves extremely well even when they have a little rust on them. However, if the metal is so rusted that it loses most of its conductivity in the rust sites, you'll get local heating across the rusty patches and eventually leakage of microwaves. If you're really concerned that there may be trouble, run the microwave oven empty for about 20 seconds and then (carefully!) touch the rusty spots. If they aren't hot, then the metal underneath is doing its job just fine.

Thanks.

Microwave enamel wearing away

It will have to be sanded smooth and clean and dried thoroughly.

Then you can apply some high-temperature appliance paint, available from places like Wal-Mart, Lowe's or Builder's Square.

Enamel should work, but appliance paint is better.
