I have a Brother HL-2040. The paper light is on, there is plenty of paper, not overfilled, no paper jams, and it still will not print.

    There was no paper jam before and solutions did not fix problem.

    I will wait for the drum to cool before pulling out. I am wondering if the grey belt for the paper feeding should be free roating or not? I am still not seeing any paper jams or scaps but once more waiting to pull the drum.

That printer is kind of picky, make sure the paper cassette is all the way in, and also remove the toner and drum and look underneath. Sometimes paper scraps stick under the rollers and guides on the bottom.

    That roller is not free rolling, but paper dust on it can cause it not to pick up and call it a jam, wipe the exposed areas of that roller with a damp rag and see if it helps..

Take out toner and make sure nothing is blocking in the way, Unplug unit and give it a few seconds before plugging it back in. Did you have a paper jam before this problem or ever recently had one?

When I turn on the printer the light paper flashes
The paper light flashing because there is some paper inside the printer. Open the front cover and remove the cartridge and look inside for the jammed paper. Remove the jammed paper and insert the cartridge , closed the front cover and switch on the printer.
It will help you to solve the problem.

I have a Brother HL-2040. The "paper light is on & won't print.
Hi,
Sounds like a paper jam. There's a flap at the back of the printer-once open you should be able to see if the paper is stuck there. (Exactly the problem I had yesterday-I didn't spot it at first and it nearly drove me mad! :)

Make sure to clean all the rollers you can see and make sure to check the paper sensor, and clean all rollers and paper paths with some Isopropyl Alcohol (AKA rubbing alcohol)

Printing mailing list
Sounds to me like the word doc's page size is not set to the same as your printers tray.

In word, file , page set up. page size/paper size is set to "letter" in US I think is standard, it's A4 in Oz

On printer driver check page size setting too

Contral panel, printers and faxs, RIgHT click on brother printer icon, properties, printing preferences, page size
