When the motor starts their is a rattle noise..When I looked in the back I noticed the fan blade had some play in it could that be the problem..

The shaft of the condenser fan motor will have some play in it, meaing if you are looking at it from the side, along the plane of the fan rotation, it will float to and from the motor itself, or left and right as you look at it from the side. You can isolate the noise by unplugging the refrigerator no less than 5 minutes, a minimum of 5 minutes and for at least 5 minutes. Before you plug the appliance back into the outlet, grab and hold onto the condenser fan blade, it will only be for a few seconds, and the motor is not strong enough that the blade will be ripped out of your hands. If you prefer, you can hold the blades in place by holding a screwdriver in between the blades instead. Plug the unit in, and if you still hear this rattle noise, its the compressor, not the fan motor. If you dont hear the noise, remove the screwdriver between the blades, and listen for the refrigerator noise as the fan motor starts up. If it made the noise then check for any obstructions to the fan blades, check that the three screws that secure the motor are tight, if they are loose, the fan will bounce. if they are tight, you probably have a bad condenser fan motor

Loud fan rattling in convection mode

On the repairs I have done, it has always been a bad fan motor bearing. The only way you are going to be able to tell is to tear it down to the fan assembly and feel if the fan blade or blower is loose. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists

Kitchenaid convection oven fan rattles/noisey

Sometimes the fan blade mounting nut gets loose. Remove the cover from the fan and see if the blade wobbles. If so,tighten the nut on the fan motor.

Loud Rattling Noise While Running

That's the blower fan blade loose on the motor shaft making the noise. Once you replace that the noise should clear up. You don't provide the make and model so I can't give you a part number, but you can Google search for "replacement fan" for your specific model. Sears' parts site (www.searspartsdirect.com) is a good place to start. Enter your model number and they have exploded views and parts information for most models. Then you can use the information to shop around. There are many online vendors for appliance parts.

There are also several websites showing the steps for getting into the dryer to replace the part. Replacing the fan blade is not a difficult job to do yourself if you are comfortable with a screwdriver and have a little mechanical aptitude. Otherwise an appliance technician could repair this for probably an hour labor charge plus parts ad trip fee. Certainly less than a new dryer would cost.

huthy, the fact that it's lasting 15 to 20 seconds leads me to believe that it could be one of the fan blades hitting. The valve springs on the compresser would make more of a clunk-clunk noise and wouldn't last that long. The evaporator fan in the freezer compartment has a grille that will snap on and off, clip on the bottom and tabs on the side. See if you can remove the grill and check to see if there is any ice build up around the evap. fan. The other fan, condensor is in back by the compressor, it could be hitting on the shroud upon start up or shut down. Check these things first and post back...Catriver
