I have a JVC AV-32950 and have lines running across the top 3 - 4 inches of the picture. The picture also goes black on occassion and I have to hit the top of the TV to get the picture to come back. While the picture is black the sound is still on. Any ideas what might be going bad? I have some experience fixing computer monitors is this something I might be able to fix myself or should I take it to an expert?

It may be a dry solder point somewhere near the vertical IC. First take look at the solder points and if you found cracks pls resolder it. if the lines continous you have to replace Caps near the vertical or circuit.thank you

So I have a 50 Lg ( LG 50LN5700). There is still a picture however about every 3 seconds it goes from regular to blurry and repeats. There seem to be about 3 black lines across the top horizontally about 3...

To clarify, are the 3 black lines horizontal (left to right across entire width of screen)? or are the 3 black lines vertical (top to bottom across entire height of screen)?

Horizontal lines are almost always the result of a failed panel, and no board replacement will fix the issue.

Vertical lines such as you have described (only 3) are probably also a bad panel. If the black lines were evenly spaced in a repeating pattern, it could be a mainboard or TCONN board.

Has this panel been cracked? or perhaps cleaned recently with too much water or cleaning solvent that has gotten the screen wet?

You may have to sell the TV for parts.

JVC D-Series TV top of picture shrinking

There are probably two capacitors that are bad in the vertical circuit. Not too hard to replace if you have any experience at all. Find the vertical output IC ( usually IC451 or similar ) and simply change the closest electrolytic capacitors. A professional can do this easily. Could cost up to $150.

JVC TV - BLACK HORIZONAL LINE ACROSS THE TOP OF TV

The vertical circuit is not pulling the top of the picture to the top of the screen (CRT) correctly. Its possible you have a loose wire or device ( after moving ) . If you have vertical agustments on the back , you may be able to adjust the picture taller; if the picture becomes stretched ( non - linear ) then you definately have tv tech only problems. At that point I'd really think twice about a repair and consider a new DTV or HDTV set. If the unit was damaged by a mover , then you may have a claim against them .

JVC TV 27" Black line on top of screen

This is for the original problem.. Not the second post.

It's a problem in the horizontal deflection circuit. The parts will be available, but you will be in for some daignostic repairs also to find out why it failing or if it has failed on it's own.
There should be a few caps near the IC (an LA7840) that could also be causing the problem. Click the link, it will make it easier to locate the part inside.

This is the kind of repair best left to a TV tech, but get it done now and it won't cost anywhere near as much as it will later.

It sounds like a vertical deflection problem. You mentioned you had a white HORIZONTAL LINE in the middle of the screen. If this line runs from left to right across the screen it's in Verticla deflection. If it runs from top to bottom, it's in Horizontal deflection. I am assuming the problem is a Vertical deflaecion problem. The repairs necessary are most likley to replace the vertical capacitors or the verticla deflection chip.

I'll bet you have vertical output IC with some pins not soldered. This IC ( integrated circuit) is a "chip" that makes the picture fill out from top to bottom. After a period of time heat will cause the pins to crack loose on the circuit board. You need to have a tech check it for you. Stargazer
