This is a vcr head dirty, use a good tape cleaner, and test for level of screan dots on record video,and dont use low quality tapes (give heads short time of life).

If you are playing a VHS tape that should be color content and it's in Black and White ... well you could check the tracking control if there is one on that model. Otherwise it sounds pretty broken. Probably NWR. Not worth repair. Try Cleaning the heads with a cleaning tape???
I have a RCA flat screen television and my dvd player when hooked up is in black and white. How would i fix this and if so plz be more specific then these other people.
I just recently purchased an HD Samsung television and am trying to use it with an Insignia theater system, but picture images are night vision in blue and white. What's wrong with picture? are you using the s video socket if so you will get black & white picture you need to use rca phono to rca phono or rca phono to scart lead to record to dvd burner. as I do alot of copying over myself i never use s-video socket due to cable wrongly wired for colour just black video signal.

Perfect picture on TV, DVD and VCR, but no color means you have selected the wrong color system.Since you are in the UK, make sure that the VCR Color system is also set to PAL. Perhaps it is wrongly set to SECAM?
clean the vcr video head if that does not solve your problem have tech check your vcr the head could be bad or the automatic color control circuit good luck.
