Its very likley that the thermostat has stoped working in the on posion and the freezer is running 24/7 this wont do the compressor any good at all, change the thermostat asap,

Without the model number I'm not sure how to answer your question. Does your model have fans that blow warm air on the outside bottom or a front kick plate? What is your model number? Kenmore has model numbers like this example=> 123.3214567 If the fan has a restriction that causes a lack of airflow it can cause the hot Freon liquid that normally flows around the Yoder Loop inside edges of the freezer door to prevent frost buildup to become very hot because the condenser fan is defective or coils are dirty with dust restricting airflow. If the outside is hot you may have a defective condenser fan motor. That will cause the freezer to ger hot. I am here should you want my assistance....Sea Breeze Kenmore Freezer Parts
The hot sides is normal, this is how they expel the heat from inside the freezer, sometimes it may help to use a fan to help cool. Also make sure there is about 12" of room around all sides of the freezer .
Two things could be wrong. Motor bad or frozen up with ice.The noise could have been from frost building up and hitting the fan.If this is the case you need to defrost. Even self defrost models do this some times..Empty freezer and run a hair blower (dryer) to put heat in the compartment. this could take a while to do. over night...So run blower for a while to heat up the freezer then shut it off, close door .let sit It takes time for the heat to get to the ice.
if the motor is bad you will have to take inside cover off the access the motor

The motor is getting very hot because of running all the time and not cooling properly... As the weather is getting warmer for many people their freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...
Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...
If the freezer was stored and not running for 7 years it may have lost coolant. Since the compressor is running recharging the coolant may fix the problem. Hot compressor might indicate low coolant since its motor is immersed in it.

Since the overload was good when tested, check also the electric current if the current is in the right voltage.
If the problem still a raise, it is now the motor compressor that have problem. The motor it self cannot start or hard starting.

it should be warm to the touch but not so hot you cant. and also depending on how long the freezer is running and how warm it is where the freezer is will effect how hot the outside is. the reason the outside of the freezer is hot is because thats how the freezer releses its heat from the refrigerant. the longer it runs or the harder it has to work the more heat it has to hive off. so unless the freezer is not cooling there is nothing to worry about.
