Top of screen had 2 6'' lines across top of the screen,then it went all distorted and shut itself off. the unti is a 50'' lg model 50pg25 and is only 9mths old what caused this and is it upgradeable to the 50pg30 which i'am told is a better model

There are a few videos on YouTube about trying to repair flat-screen TVs. Some of the things to try are reflowing the solder-joints with a heat-gun, capacitor replacement, and re-seating the cable connections.

Most likely a problem with the upper y-drive board.

yes is the 2 top & botton board connect to Y board control is bad need new one
Most problem on plasma TV is heat & burner some component, about 80% is 2 top & bottom board connect to Y board is come in bad

Hi there! Your fault seems like the (From the back) Left X-Drive Board. Perhaps you can check for bad cable connections. Be careful not to damage the flexible ribbon cables as they tear easily. These boards are located on the top and bottom of the screen.(2 narrow boards, connected to one another) The narrow ones on the side are the Y-Drive boards and is not the fault. Which half? top or is it a left or right half?
Depends on which but could be the main and either the x-sus or y-sus boards

most of the time this is caused from slight water damage, or the top screen isn't functioning.
I have seen many of the top screen ribbon cabled that have sent an electric arc across 2 of the pins on the connector which causes the ribbon cable to burn out the connection on those pins resulting in an improper circuit and will flash the screen and shut off. I have repaired many units and would be happy to take a look at yours.

call 877-543-8325 this is an LG Executive call center and they will fix this for free. I have a 50" plasma I bought january 2006 which is out of warranty by 5 months. They faxed me and the LG repair shop a 30 day warranty for my tv to cover the repair. Just tell them you heard a pop and in my case the picture is distorted. All they need is the model number and serial number and they should take care of it. No arguing needed.
