There are several causes for this problem.

1) Faulty DVD drive. Most drives have a dual laser, one for CD, and one for DVD. Check the player with both CD, and DVD. If it reads one and not the other, then it is most certainly a faulty laser. The laser assembly or whole mechanism will need changing.

2) Dirty or dusty lens. If the unit is kept in a dust environment, dust and dirt can be drawn into the machine by the fan. Try using a DVD lens cleaner. If this doesn't work try a CD lens cleaner. (Dual laser - see 1))

3) Condensation. Condensation can build up on the laser lens if the unit is kept in a humid environment. Also, this can be caused by a cold environment. In this case, condensation forms as the unit warms up. In either case, leave the unit in a warm dry environment for an hour.

The player will read dvd but will not play cd

Richard: This is what EHow.com said: "
  • Turn on the DVD player. It generally takes a few seconds to get going. Take out the DVD if there's one in the drive already.
  • 2 Make sure the disc isn't scratched or dirty. Use a soft rag to clean the disc if you see any smudges. Insert the CD into the DVD player's disc drive and close it.
  • 3 Press the "Play" button on the DVD player or remote control. Some DVD players will begin reading the disc automatically. Pushing the button works just as well.
  • 4 Use the "Scene Selection" buttons on your remote to select a track. Some DVD players have odd ways of ordering the buttons on the remote. You might have to play around a bit before you find all the right buttons to work the CD playing function of your machine.
  • 5 Crank it up and enjoy your music. The DVD player will act just like a CD player and play the tracks of the CD through the TV.

How to repair dvd player v zon says wrong disc

    Hi Vzon DVD Player,
Before you fix anything, you need to troubleshoot the problem first to know what needs fixing. Since DVD players can play different kind of media formats like Audio CD, VCD, mp3, etc, please try the following
    1. Turn on the DVD player and set the program to DVD. some player needs to be setup due to multiple functionality (can play mp3 on flash drive, etc..)
    2. insert different Media CD as mentioned above if your player will play them. (if they play, try to insert the DVD you want to play)
    3. Try different DVD disc
    4. If all the above don't work, try to clean the laser head using the standard disc cleaner.
    5. retry the DVD disc
    6. If the player still don't play your DVD, probable issue would be the laser head or the disc motor.
    7. Please bring them to you nearest Electronic repair shop for further assessment.

    Good luck and thanks!

    No Disc

Stumpy, I think the first step could be to find out between the DVD player and the disc which one has a problem. If the DVD Player is able to play other discs then it is possible the problem is with the disc only. If that disc can be played quite alright in other DVD players then the problem is with your DVD Player. I suggest you trial that first. I think the indication of " No disc insert disc" could be that your DVD Player is failing to load or read the disc either because the disc has some scratches or because your DVD Player lens are not powerful enough. I am, Letsthank.
