Try them in another device to eliminate a faulty jack, if they still dont work the head phone may be faulty, return to seller and ask for a refund or replacement.

But also try a different head set in the jack to see if the jacks working properly.

My headphones have stopped working. I cannot hear sound from them at all, even though I haven't been using them much. It's model MDR-EX71SL and I bought them less than 9 months ago.

Have you tried them in another audio source. Head phone wires like to break at the strain relief of the main plug. Try moving the cord on the plug side of the phones. If it cuts in and out its time for a new set. Head phone wires are difficult to repair and it may be more trouble then its worth.

Only one side works when headphones are plugged all the way in and both sides work when only half way in, but this is no good as it doesn't lock into place only half way in and keeps falling out.

apple's love is too deep. crumple some tinfoil - aluminum foil - and drop it in the jack receptacle, then insert jack - worked perfectly for me - after a long frustrating morning surfing for solution.

When you plug your headphones in there is a dis connect the head phone jack should be contacting to break the circuit to the internal speakers. Try a different head phone set. Reciever says there are headphones plugged in, and there are not!

Possibly a bad connection in the jack or bad solder on the jacks circuit board. First clean the jack with a very little wd40 or similar lubricant then plug in a head phone in and out 5 to 10 times, this should clean the contacts of the swtich in the jack, that signals the micro that headphones are being used. If that doesn't do it take the top off and look at the circuit board for and rings ir cracks in the solder near the jack. Depending on the model could be very easy or fairy difficult.

Good Luck.

Head phone

that means it's broken. is it just a headphone adapter, or the kind that plugs straight into the phone? you can buy a headphone adapter on ebay cheap, maybe 3-4 dollars.
