Question about RCA EZ 105 Camcorder
I recently purchased a small wonder camcorder and whenever I hook it up to my computer a message comes up that says USB device not recognized. I was wondering if you would be able to help me figure out why it wont work on my computer.
It isn’t your computer: this camera (although it is
otherwise great) has serious interface issues with computers. Mine is driving
me crazy and I am in South America, so all I
can do is rely on these tech forums to try to get some clues. When I connect my
camera to my computer, sometimes the computer sees it and it transfer files and
edits just fine. Other times it sees and transfers, but then the software wont
edit (says there is an error). Other times it sees it but the computer says it
doesn’t recognize the device, and the software therefore wont run to upload the
files. However, if I leave it plugged in long enough, *sometimes* like an hour
later, it just all of a sudden recognizes it – but sometimes it never does, all
day long. Sometimes I plug it in and it doesn’t show up on any drive at all,
even if I change it from one USB port to another. There is a newer laptop here
running Vista that never once has been able to see the camera, and an older one
running XP that sees it every single time, but suffers a power surge because it
is too old and tells me to unplug the device and reset the port and not to use
it there again. When I can get my computer to recognize it, I immediately run
the upgrade available on the site http://www.mysmallwonder.com/support/downloads.aspx
and that usually fixes the problem for a few days – the computer can see the
camera and recognize it for a few days – until it cant again! (Make sure to
follow the instructions all the way through, which include disconnecting the
camera from the computer and pressing the delete button on the camera after the
download, and then turning the camera on again to finish the process.) The
upgrade usually also fixes the software glitches (for when the computer recognizes
it and I can upload videos, but not edit them, but today for example, the
upgrade hasn’t fixed the glitches and I cannot edit at all. I am going to try
deleting the RCA memory manager program and uploading again through the camera.
One big problem I have is that I don’t have the original disk with me, so when
the software goes psycho I have to download the program through the online
upgrade that only will work when it interfaces with the plugged in camera –
which depending on the day, may or may not be recognized by my computer, or
even APPEAR on any drive. That’s where I am.
Please let me know if anyone knows how to solve this.

Make sure you have the latest version of USB on your computer. I just purchased a Small Wonder EZ101 on ebay and it connects to my laptop without a problem.
