Will those games open, but with no sound? Or will they not open and run at all? If so, what errors do you receive?

I have an older model 5716 Compaq computer. It will not open the CD drive. It reports the drive is not ready. I had this problem several years ago and it was resolved by a repair that I received on an Internet website. I have forgotten how to perform the repair but it was common problem with this model series of Compaq computers. Would appreciate any help. [email protected] Thanks.

Why does my scrabble complete game hang up all the time using windows 7

When it locks up like that, it means you've got a virus that slows things to the point of aggravation. Just reinstall your Operating system and you'll get back to new again. Make sure you JUST replace the OS and it will leave everything else in tact. It's easy to do, just takes time for the fresh install. Patience is required.

Can I play Scrabble on pc without Internet connection?

You should try a game that you have to download and install, for example Scrabble free.
It is a good one and it is provided at no cost. You don't need Internet connection to play it as it is just like any other PC game.

Cannot see profiles on scrabble

Update your Adobe flash player software to the latest version:
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

If that doesn't fix it you might have some viruses and malware.

Start your PC and press F8 several times until the boot menu comes up. Then select "Safe Mode with Networking". Now get some or ALL of the FREE programs below.

Download, Install and Run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:

When Installing choose the non-pro version.

If you have an outdated Anti-virus program then Download, Install and Run Avira Anti-Virus:

Make sure to select ALL of the "threat categories" when you install or configure Avira...

You should be in pretty good shape if you run and install all of these programs.

Atari Scrabble Complete has been playing well on XP for years. New computer has Windows 7 and Scrabble freezes when it begins loading. I also have BitDefender Anti-Virus installed but it does not seem to...

Unfortunately not all games will work with newer versions of Windows even with the compatibility modes. Atari Scrabble is an older game, and Atari stopped providing updates for the game some time ago. At this point your best bet is to find a version of Scrabble that is compatible with Windows 7. Microsoft has a Windows 7 Compatibility page on their site. The website address that is below lists another companies version of Scrabble that will work with Windows 7. Check out your local PC game retailers or the Internet to find and purchase a copy or search to see if there are other versions that will work with Windows 7.

CD will not open Compaq 5716

Four/five year old Compaq system boards also develop leaks in some of the capacitors that cause the IDE channels to develop read problems. Look for signs of "damage" near the IDE cable connectors.
In addition, the error recovery of the Windows Setup program is, well "really bad". It can not handle CD-Rom or CD errors very well. With this type of problem you have to boot with a startup diskette and see if you can read most of the disk drive. Then create a work folder on the disk drive and copy the contents of the WinXP folder to the temp folder on the disk drive. Then run the Setup from the disk drive.
In some cases like this, you have pull out the CD-Rom drive and if it is on its own IDE cable, change Compaq's default jumper setting from CS (Cable Select) to MS (Master). Usually works a lot better.
The reason you have not had "any trouble" with the drive (that you know about) is that Windows has very good error recover, it just keeps trying, and does not tell you about problems unless there is nothing it can do to get around the problem.

Try a different CD. Can be a bad CD.
Try looking at device manager to confirm that the PC sees the drive.

Right-click on MY Computer and select properties
Go to Hardware and select Device Manager

Try using a CD cleaner as the laser that reads the CD is dirty.
