Here is what you can do to refresh the USB ports:
1. Right click MY COMPUTER
2. Select PROPERTIES
3. Select HARDWARE
4. Select DEVICE MANAGER
5. Select UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CONTROLLERS
6. Right click on each USB CONTROLLER and select Uninstall
7. Uninstall all entries
8. Reboot your computer
9. As your computer re-boots it will reinstall all USB connections it detects
THEN, when all other USB items have been configured and connected by the system, you then should try connecting your USB drive

Ibm thinkpad audio drives G40 2384

You can get the driver from the computer manufacturer's website. If you want all drivers covered and updated, then you can install an automatic driver updater like RadarSync. You don't have to go to different websites to find the different drivers because the software will do all the work for you.

I hope this helps!

I have a Ibm thinkpad R40 2723 EG7 laptop. I have a problem with the 2 usb ports which works really slow, and always unders usb1 standard and not usb2! Is this an installation problem, bios problem or this...

Hi, providing this Thinkpad you are talking about was built around seven years ago, it'll only have the USB 1.0 which means a slower data transfer rate. Which is normal for this age of laptop

My USB ports suddenly quit working on my IBM Z Pro 6221 59U

Check the actual ports, visual inspection. Look for consistancy of the pins, and guide. If one is bent or missing, that can short out the ports, or blow out the integrated circuit.

If you are using a usb keyboard, try to start up and go into the setup using the keyboard. If you can, the driver for the ports might be damaged, causing the problem in windows, but not in the bios startup.

You can purchase a usb board that can give you new ports, and deleting the usb hub from the hardware manager (check help) and re-detecting the device might repair a damaged driver.

I have a Western Digital Passport that works fine

Western Digital Passports work perfectly on USB ports 2.0 that supplies 5v of electricity with a max of 500mA. If your computer was manufactured more than 5 years ago, it may be using the USB 1.1 which is slower than the current.

IBM G40 won't reboot

Unfortunately only few people know your problems solution but I'm happy that i can help you.

Its simply a problem of setting HDD ( Hard Disk Drive ) type which can be changed using BIOS setup. I hope your laptop must have SATA but if its not working on current settings then please change it to another options available.

Surely, your system will get booted after that and furthermore you can re-install your windows again...

Does your machine have a built in wireless card or a slot for a card? If not, you can purchese a universal wireless card for you machine at Walmart, Bestbuy, or on line at pricewatch.com. The cards come in either a bus port or usb port style, either will work, and they range in price from $30 to $125. The $30 to $50 range will work just fine for you.

Can't upgrade the USB ports to Version 2.0

Hi cogilbert,
I had a similar problem with my PC which had older version 1 USB. I purchased a USB 2 PCI card with USB Hub, installed and problem solved. It really not a very expensive proposition. The card comes with the necessary software and drivers. It works great.
