I would take it to a repair shop, but it sounds like somewhere in the power board.

2 yr old 42 inch plasma.screen goes black,sometimes only half screen,sound is on.it does it after 1 hr of viewing, theres a greenish line in the middle of the black sreen when that happens,
pls help.

there are 2 types of flicker, one is the lamps that drive the display and the second is the sync signal of the video.
I assume the video sync is the flicker you see,
I would try connecting a different way to make sure it is not the tv,
connect using the aux /rca connectors to cable box.
and or connect using the cable direct bypassing the cable box.
I have seen several complaints about the hdmi cable signal being incorrect in some way,
this is the same issue that the svideo connector had in its early adoption signal was too hot or too low.
another thing to watch out for is the low light sensor on the front of tv if it gets an incorrect reading it can flicker the back light though it should be slow in doing so.
some times the flicker you see is not flicker but ac running through the sides of the picture from an ungrounded cable source.
how does it perform if you play a dvd player , with and without the cable box connected.

if your tv is on warranty take it back to best buy for a replacement.good luck

my 5 yr. old 50 inch plasma hd that i paid almost $7000 for started flashing for afew sec. when first turned on.progresivly got worse,flashed for about 30 min. then ok until turned off.after about a month power light comes on fans start then trips off. gateway phone 888 737 6949 wants $250 for power supply $330 for video?board $600 plus for other boards no guarantees.i fixed mine by spending $1000 for a new vizio 50 inch plasma hd.if anyone wants a free dead gateway email me,
