PC Selected - Failed

Help, I'm trying to stream movies & music down from my PC to my xbox 360. when i test my media connection it tells me that PC selected - Failed

My network route
Internet->Belkin F5D5231-4 Cable/DSL Gateway Router->then 1 x ethernet cable to my PC and 1 x ethernet cable out to my xbox.

Xbox live works without any problems. I have wmp11 set up to share with my xbox. ive turned windows firewall & Mcafee fire wall off and forwarded the correct TCP&UDP ports on my router.

How can i fix this problem

Thanks for the idea. After reading various forums and trying numerous fixes, I think deleting the files in my DRM folder coupled with restarting my windows media player network sharing services it seemed to work.

    Cheers anyway

Wmp11 streaming works upon universal plug and play on your router to direct streaming. I have had this problem too. Maybe people do. I found that upnp on my router was always the problem. Make sure it's enabled, and if you have not restarted your router do that. and after you enable upnp, its a good idea to restart it also. I'd give it a 75% chance its a universal pnp problem. Yet if your port forwarding, you might need to disable it, i dont know, i always just used upnp for simplicity. Finally, double check you have a static ip for your port forwards if you continue on that route.

Xbox wont let me play movies from my pc 69-807B0191

Xbox 360 has limited codecs, if you want to utilize more file formats download the media pack on xbox live. but for your streaming pleasure try out TVersity or PS3 Media Server it also supports xbox. just install it on your PC then stream the videos to your xbox.

Stream AVCHD videos to Xbox 360 via DLNA-AVCHD to Xbox Converter

Xbox DLNA-AVCHD MTS/M2TS to Xbox 360 support formats on Windows 7

Generally, I have my video to be kept in a D-Link NAS box, so that I can watch them on Xbox. The NAS is quite old, and I will buy a home server similar to the HP models one day. Xbox has a "Windows Media Center" window in the dashboard view, and Xbox Streams videos from NAS via DLNA for HDTV.

However, the AVCHD files from my Sony DSC-TX100V could not read by Xbox. While looking for the solution to stream AVCHD videos to Xbox, I find Aunsoft Final Mate as the recommended AVCHD video converter and joiner with best quality. After dealing the AVCHD files with Final Mate on Windows 7 Premium, I can share the videos using Windows Media Center software for streaming.

Below is just a simple guide with AVCHD to Xbox supported format.

Step 1. Import AVCHD videos to Final Mate.
Run Final Mate as the best AVCHD to Xbox converter, and click the Add file path button on Resource tab to browse the folder with .mts or .m2ts files on PC hard drive. For videos from camera, just connect camera to PC via USB cable, and follow the pop-up wizard to import videos.

Step 2. Select and join AVCHD files for output.
Select the clips on Resource tab or Camcorder tab, drag and drop to the Movies tab. You can create a movie for each file or a movie with several files with conversion. For another movie, just click the Create New Movie button.

Step 3. Choose Xbox format.
Click the icon next to the Movie name in the Movies tab, you will see the format options. Move to the Device group, find Zune/Xbox 360 Device and choose Zune Xbox 360 - Windows Media Video(*.wmv) as output format.

Click Export button, and the conversion from AVCHD to Xbox 360 support format will start right away. Wait for a while, and put the videos to the video folder for sharing. Xbox 360 then can stream videos from the NAS via DLNA.

How to play video/music on xbox what formats does it support

Movies I convert them to .avi and stream them from my PC to 360. Music is .mp3. Again I stream these from my PC. You can put a music cd in the 360 and copy the contents to the HDD.

Here's a link for one of my other answers to link your PC to 360:

How to stream video through xbox

on the dash board go to media center
write down the 4 digit number and log onto the site it tells you
enter in the number
you will use the media center to look at pics listen to music or watch movies off any windows pc on the network in your house. If you have multiple computers in the house you can access them all with the media center extender.(your 360) it streams all this over your network. sometimes this can be a problem due to lagging. I bought a Western Digital 1terabyte (1000GB) my passport external hard drive and formatted it to FAT32 and backed up all of my music and movies off my computer to it. the external hdd runs off of a usb and doesn't need to be plugged into the wall so I can take it any where. it is a little bigger than my iphone. it works on my 360 and ps3 great. if you have xbox live download the "optional media update" from the marketplace for free to be able to play more types of video formats. you don't need a gold subscription to do this

How do i get windows media to work on my xbox

To use your Xbox360 as a Media Center Extender, you must "link" the Xbox to your Media Center PC. Follow these instructions:

http://support.xbox.com/support/en/us/nxe/xboxlive/troubleshooting/networkhelp_mcxpc.aspx

This should only need to be done once. If you just want to stream music/movies from your PC, it should be auto-detected by the Xbox as long as it's on the same network. Make sure you have the latest version of Windows Media Player (version 11).

I wanna use a phone line to get the internet and the music off my laptop to connect to my xbox 360...?

Phone line? As in dial up? No dice. You need, atleast, a DSL connection or faster to get Xbox live.

You can use a UPnP media server, such as TVersity to stream music from your laptop to the 360. What's cool about TVersity is that even though the music you want to play is an unsupported format for your Xbox, it will automatically transcode (make it into something the Xbox 360 can play).

If you have a broadband connection (e.g. DSL, Cable, Sat, etc.) you can have Tversity stream your favorite internet radio stream to your Xbox 360.

Download the latest Windows Media Player, Tversity or These other media servers, install, configure (TVersity is fairly easy to setup), and go look for the Tversity folder in your Music section in the NXE menu.

I wrote a how-to on setting up TVersity here if you need help setting it up.

Hope this helps,
Bill
