Question about Lexmark X1290 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Lexmark x1290 will not copy

Printer works, scanner works, try to do a copy from the printer button or from the on screen control panel and I get a message tha the printer is not communicating with the computer?

Have Vista, just reinstalled the driver from a previous download.

Computer is Acer Aspire 3680-2249 and the firewall was off

    I have used the CD to reinstall the programme. I have tried to do my own troubleshooting but with no success.

    I can't print or scan manually from the printer itself when I need to photocopy any document.It is connected to the computer ok and is working alright. Have no cd or manual for it.

    copier will not work. the printer works from the computer, but the copier will not work alone. absolutely nothing happens when i press any "copy" buttons.

Make sure the driver you used was not corrupt, by downloading it again. It can also be surpassed by copying the drivwr on to a new disc in case it is a disc error. Also make sure uninstalls and reinstalls are smooth and final with no leftover files. Make sure you unisnatll and reinstall under device managers and you can even use a program like revo unistaller which will remove all traces in the registry. Have you also made sure the printer preferences are not stusk on work online, or some other setting not suitable? Also clear the printer queue, as this can unblock printers 'memory file' and help it communicate again.

A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer from your computer. Reboot your pc. Unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to your computer. Then try to print again once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection.

If that doesn't help, try the steps below:

1. Disconnect the printer from your computer.

2. Rebrick (pull out power supply, black box where the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after 30 seconds).

2. On your computer, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes.

3. Delete the Lexmark print object.

4. Reboot your pc.

5. When your pc turns on, reconnect the printer.

6. Wait until your pc fully recognizes the USB connection. To check, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes. If you see a new Lexmark print object in the list, then try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

I can not get my printer lexmark 2670 to scan when i push the button on top. it was working then just stopped

Can you try to make a copy using the copy button on the printer operator panel? If you're not able to make a copy, it could be hardware problem in the scanner/copier system. You can try to unplug and replug the printer into the power source to reset it. Then try to scan or copy again using the buttons on the printer. If problem continues, please don't hesitate to contact Lexmark technical support for additional assistance.

Lexmark x1240 All-In-One Printer Control Panel

This is the description of printer control panel

green button-START COLoUR COPY a documnet on scanner this button..u would get colur copies of the document

Black button-START BLACK COPY a documnet on scanner this button..u would get black copies of the document

white button on the left hand side-paper feed load paper into the paper feed tray

white button the right...not sure:)....i guess it should be the scan button....

Installing my printer

Here's a link to the driver software that is on the cd:

Unzip to a folder. Plug in the printer and go to Control Panel, System, Device Manager and under Printers or Unknown Device, double click the device and click the driver tab and install the driver. Choose the 'Let me choose the driver' type option and navigate to the folder you unzipped it to, install and reboot.

Trouble scanning without pc

Using the operator panel:
  1. Turn the printer on.
  2. Open the top cover.
  3. Place the document face down in the lower right corner.
  4. Close the top cover.
  5. Press the Color or the Black copy button as required.
Using the computer:
  1. Make sure the printer and your computer are turned on.
  2. Open the top cover.
  3. Place the document face down on the scanner bed in the lower right corner.
  4. Close the top cover.
  5. Click Start, Programs, Lexmark Xx3, Scan & Copy Control Program.
  6. Select the number of copies.
  7. Click the option that matches the desired color of the copy.
  8. Click the Copy button.
To customize the copy settings:
  1. Click Start, Settings, Lexmark Xx3, Scan & Copy Control Program.
  2. Click File and then Setup.
  3. Select the Copy/Fax tab.
  4. Customize your settings as required.
  5. Select OK to start copying

Installation of a downloaded driver for Lexmark X1290 All-In_One

I bought a Lexmark X1290 printer and installed a wrong driver (for WinXP) from the enclosed CD. Then I could not run the All in One program. After many reinstallation attemps, I finally found a solution (which is unfortunately quite hidden at the Lexmark website):

1) Unplug the printer's USB cable from the computer.
2) Download the cleaning utility from
3) Double-click on the cleanup utility and follow the on-screen instructions to run it.
4) Restart the computer.
5) Download all files from
6) Follow the instructions in the "Vista BackDoor Instructions.txt" and delete all remaining Lexmark
keys in the registry.
7) Restart the computer
8) Download a proper driver for Windows Vista from the Lexmark website.
9) Install the driver accordingly to the instructions (it's important to plug the printer's USB cable when you are ask to, not before)

The problem with Lexmark Unistall and CleanUp Utility is that you cannot delete all Lexmark registry keys while you arelogged in the system. This is anellegant way how to circumvent the problem.

Installation of a downloaded driver for Lexmark X1290 All-In_One

For those of you who have downloaded the appropriate vista driver for your printer. Go to device manager on pc (control panel, hardware and devices etc) Select uninstall printer driver, as you want any old references to xp one deleted. Now, place new disc or dicc with new driver files in and your install new hardware program shopuld self start. IF not you can manually do it by going to add new hardware wizard, and select own information to suit yopur needs. But win vista should automatically find the new drivers.
