Tomtom One 3rd edition - no SD slot and not enough memory

Hi,
I just received a One 3rd edition for Christmas and have moved from Canada to live in Denmark for the next six months. I just downloaded the maps for Norway, Sweden and Denmark (you have to specify the device you have when you purchase, so I assumed I would be able to upload to my device after purchasing) but now there is not enough space to load the new maps in addition to the existing USA/Canada maps.  Tomtom home does not allow me to remove the USA/Canada maps and I do not think I am able to upgrade the SD card.  is there anything I can do, or did I just waste 40 euro?

Yes, itzkakarot is correct...you are not able to change the SD card.

you what I think...I think tomtom is ****...their customer service is **** and their products are ****...do yourself a favor and buy a garmin, a company with a reputable history.  Sorry if this post offends or is less than mature, I am rather frustrated with ever deciding to purchase a tomtom one and am now using this site to vent...ahhhh, much better.

I have a BIG problem with this device, you can only half either Western Europe or Eastern Europe which is sh*t when you live in Central Europe or just Europe full stop. It clearly wasn't designed for the European market.

Sold to me as easily to buy and download maps onto, only they don't fit onto the fully unupgradable device since Tomtom in whatever spasm of unintellience decided to disallow any changing of memory capacity. Why why why why WHY!!!!

So when travelling around Europe I have to carry a laptop with me containing both E Europe and W Europe maps on it it so I can delete the last and upload the new when I cross over the borders which incidentally doesn't exist anymore!

This is one for my screwdrivers and soldering equipment I think!

    Ilah!

You could probably just manually delete the Canada/USA maps from the device, and copy over the europe (or whichever ones you need) to the device.
Just plug it in, and view the memory like a normal usb drive..delete the old, copy over the new.
Don't forget to use tomtom home to backup your gps device to your computer first (thus saving your canada maps for later..)
Afterwards, you would probably have to go into your preferences and choose the europe maps.
Good luck!

pretty sure changing the maps in the internal memory wouldn't void the warranty.

hey...did you try solution #2..?  i think it may work for you..it's actually probably simpler to do than i made it sound..

Does anybody know how to apply only one country into tomtom one 3rd edition without sd card. For example I have western europe 1 gb, but there is something like 100mb free so I was wondering if it is possible to add just one country out of the eastern europe map.

To whoever posted solution #3 ('Guest') - or anyone who can help - I need to open up my TomTom One, people keep suggesting opening it as a solution to various problems, and they normally observe that you need special tools as TomTom have made it difficult to open - does anyone know where such tools may be available??!

There is no way to add additional storage without voiding warrenty. You will have to open the TOmTom and see if the SD slot is still there. If it is not there then there is not much you can do.

Any maps put into a folder can then be put on a sd card installed in your tt. you will however need an activation code.........

Hi there,

I've just purchased a Tomtom One (3rd edition ) with maps of most of the European countries, BUT NOT the one of Greece.
Is it possible to install the latest map of Greece.
Thanks

You can copy maps from one card to another card with more capacity (such as 1Gb / 2Gb). I have done this without problems.

Buy a new SD card, install the new euro maps to there, then insert the original US/CA card, temporarily copy the map files to your hard disc, insert the new larger card with the new maps and copy the US/CA maps to there.

Ah.. you're correct. Strange that they made all storage internal.

How do i get to the map for puerto rico on new tom tom

Puerto Rico is included with the latest 'USA' or 'USA & CANADA' or 'USA & Mexico' TomTom maps.
Depending on what map came originally with your unit, you can download the required USA map either for free or for a fee via 'TomTom Home' while connected to the internet. Alternatively, you can get it from a retail shop or from Tomtom directly on a DVD. It is a new Map, it will need to be registred to your device: you cannot just simply copy the maps from somebody else ...
WARNING: unless your unit came with a SD memory slot or came with 1GB of internal memory, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE those rather large maps! For instance, Tomtom One V3 in Australia only come with 512K and NO SD memory slot!
Hope this information is useful: let me know how you go!

Down loading Europe on my TomTom 1/3

Yes you can I have europe and canada on mine.

just plug your tomtom into your computer and start tomtom home

On the computer screen for tomtom select ADD MAPS

Here you can select and buy the maps you need.

Once you have confirmed the purchase you will be given instructions on how to download etc

Some maps may take a little time to install to the tomtom itself.

you should also ensure there is enough space on your tomtom
If not you will have to get an SD memory card.

I use a 4gb one that still has lots of room to spare

Tom tom one xl wont accept SD card with map on

If you have TomTom that have the slot for SD card, then it should accepted the SD card. The instruction for how to use the SD card is simple, but it is hidden in the TomTom Home, that's why it's difficult to find it. Below are the instruction how to use the SD card.

1. Format the SD card (FAT32) and do not stick the SD in the slot yet
2. Run Backup (connect TomTom device to computer)
3. Disconnect TomTom from computer and turn off
4. Slide the SD into the slot and connect TomTom back to computer (choose "yes")
5. In the TomTom Home menu, Choosen Backup & Restore >>> and choosen Restore

TomTom Home will add all applications to the SD card. So the internal memory still have the applications and the SD card also had the same applications. Everytime you slide the card in, TomTom will automatic detect and use it as its primary storage, if it not detect, you can go to the device menu and pick the device to connect to.
Whenver you take the SD card out, then TomTom will use its internal memory.

Hope this helpful

Max. Mem. Card

I think you will find that the tomtom one 3rd edition is a sealed unit.
No SD slot.
But it does have 1GB of RAM for storage and 32MB RAM for system use.
Pretty much the same internal architecture as an early handheld PC.
All updates are done through USB.
Hope this information is useful.
