Hi! regarding upgrade, the only thing that you can upgrade is the firmware to a higher version. but with regards to the added features, you need to buy a new one with better features.

try to upgrade the firmware of the router. that will help you. For this you will need to connect the computer to the router. Do not upgrade the firmware of the router using the wireless computer. You will need to download the new firmware from the manufacturer's web site. Then open the router set up page and upgrade the firmware of the router.

never upgrade Firmwares....they are not ment for that....
your hardware may be rendered useless after firmware upgrades....the chip inside your hardware is programed to run based on a certian program installed as a firmware from the factory....sometimes upgrades will screwup your hardware....so be careful and do it at your own risk...
Check the wireless channel on the router. Is it properly set ? you can try changing the wireless channel on the router. Or if that doesn't work then you can try to upgrade the firmware of the router. for this you will need to open the set up interface of the router. Click Here to know more about routers
Go to the Belkin support section at their website: http://www.belkin.com/support/
Look for your model router and download the "firmware" upgrade for it. Once you go install the up to date firmware try to give the router a reset. Hopefully doing all that will get the router working again and you connecting to the Internet.
