if the camera wont turn on remove the memory card and make sure your pictures are transfered. Try using regular disposable batteries. Also when trying to turn it on try holding down the power button for 5 seconds. If it still doesnt turn on coud be a broken switch connection.
There appears to be an issue with the S2 IS after two years. See the reviews on Canon's website:

If yours is two years old then you are probably out-of-luck. It would probably cost more to repair than to simply replace. As a work-around, try removing the batteries after use.
it normally indicates a problem with the batteries. Try inserting disposable alkaline battieres in the camera and turn it on.
If the lense is still out at the moment try pressing the play button the back of the camera to view the pictures taken, even with a very low battery this normally close the lense properly and enables you to view the pictures.
Do make sure you have the correct power loading of battery. Make sure it is the correct specification as laid down in the Manual. An incorrectbattery will not have enough power to run the device
It is possible that the batteries are dead (they might be faulty or too old) even when they are out of the package, though unlikely.
Try another set of batteries, and if these don't work, you'll probably have to send it for a checkup.
