DUDE! Your TV was Manufactured in October 1998! Man that's almost 20 years ago!
Instead of hunting/asking for help here you may consider getting local help to 'push it to the curb'!
Even your TUNER won't receive the new DIGITAL channels without a external converter... honestly ~ I think you got your money's worth!
SOURCE: Menu will not display
If the channel and volume visual display was not set up on the menu to display on screen , neither will show up even if either the remote or set front button are used. Make sure that the tv button is selected on the remote to access the menu .If that does not work ,then either the batteries are dead or the remote is dead.If it is you will need a new remote, sadly. Then you can press the m button , select sound and then select "display volume" and check "during adjustment". The channel display settings are found on "features" from the main menu. Hope this helps.

Actually, I was able to fix mine! It turned out it was some dust inside the TV. I just had to vacuum it out. There wasn't hardly any visible dust in there, but I decided to try as a last ditch effort. Did it about a month ago and haven't had any problems since... Just take out the 15 or so screws for the lower cover part on the back of the TV and vacuum it out carefully...
SOURCE: System will not power on!
The fuse has blown out and some CAPACITORS ON THE POWER BOARD. You will need to replace the fuse first and then look for blown out capacitors on the powerboard using a multimeter... Just in case you locate the faulty capacitors just note down the values on them and google for them. Shouldn't be hard, anyways if can't find them i will be right here to help!
Regards!
Eagle.

Mine was doing that and I ordered a replacement power supply board for it and now it work. It's fairly easy to replace.

The lamp timer on the Hitachi projector must be reset whenever the lamp has been replaced. The "Lamp" indicator on the display will light red or the "Change the Lamp" message will display when the lamp timer needs to be reset. Hitachi recommends that the lamp timer never be reset without replacing the lamp and to always reset the timer when the lamp is replaced. The message functions of the projector will not function properly if the lamp timer is not correctly reset.
Turn the power on. Press the "Reset" button for three seconds until the "Lamp xxxx hr" message appears on the lamp timer on the bottom of the screen.
Press the "Menu" button on the remote control while the lamp timer is displayed.
Press the left arrow button. Select "0" and wait until the timer display clears.
