Pulll outthe battery and unplug the power adapter hold down the enter key for 60 seconds then install power cord and try to power up the computer without the battery, if it powers up you have a a battery problem, if it won't power up your battery power supply is bad, but needs to be tested. I have found that Interstate Battery company will test the battery and power supply for free, and they are happy to rebuild the battery if it needs it.

Dell C640 will not power up w/ac ad

  1. Verify that the AC adapter brick is receiving power.
Shut down the computer and unplug the adapter from the system first and then from the power socket. Wait 5 seconds.
  2. Plug the adapter directly into the wall socket, bypassing surge protectors, UPS units, or extension cords. The adapter LED should produce a steady green light.
  3. If you do not get a green light, try the adapter in another wall outlet in another room or verify that the first outlet works with a lamp or hairdryer.
  4. You can also isolate the power problem to a bad adapter by swapping it out with a second adapter - such as one for use with the port replicator.
  5. If the adapter LED lights, check the computer for bad connections.
  6. Examine the system power socket to be sure it does not have any bent, missing, or pushed-in pins.
  7. Plug the adapter connector directly into the computer, bypassing surge protectors, extension cords, etc. Be sure that the adapter connector fits tightly into the computer's power socket.
  8. If you have access to another computer like yours, try your adapter on it or its adapter on your computer.
  9. If your computer is still under warranty and the AC adapter does not respond to troubleshooting, please contact your computer manufacturer.

No power leds. My Ac adapter is new with the right voltage coming out. I have to keep on unplugging the power cord then the green light comes on my Dell Inspiron 1300

If the adapter is new or OK then connect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/battery charging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's power socket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position this LED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solder joint where it is connected to the motherboard.
This can be repaired but it requires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket and repair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.

Not charging

which green light?

light from the ac power adapter or the light from the battery?

if ac power adapter you are referring to try a diff power wall socket if ac power adapter still off then replace ac power adapter alone.

if battery light is off but the laptop works fine with ac adapter alone try updating the laptop BIOS.

if ac adapter light turns off when it plug to the laptop replace motherboard.

Battery has gone dead. When I plug the A/C cord in the light on the charger immediately goes out and won't charge battery.

try connecting ac adapter alone without the laptop, check if ac adapter light will stay green or blue.
try another power outlet using the ac adapter alone without the laptop check if the ac adapter light will stay as green or blue. if all fails replace ac adapter.

if ac adapter stays green or blue try connecting to the laptop without the batt, check if the ac adapter light will stay on, if yes then try connecting ac adapter to laptop with the batt plugin check if the light stays green. if not update the BIOS. if fails replace motherboard.

My Inspiron 9400 started going off and all the lights would go off with the ac power cordYou could wiggle the cord which connects in the back a little and sometimes the green light would come on. The AC...

You could have a power adapter problem, the adapter usually quite warm to touch but not very hot.

Check your mains adapter plug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltage should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that is printed on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced.

If the adapter is OK then connect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/battery charging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's power socket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position this LED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a dry solder joint where it is connected to the motherboard.

On the issue with th ebattery on the 1521 inspiron. Took battery out and plugged in still will not power up. Could it be the adapter as well?

On the ac adaptor, look for a green light that will turn on when you plug it into the wall outlet, if its on that means the ac adapter working. If you get a green light on the ac adapter but then the green light goes away when you plug it into the laptop then that means the laptop has a bad motherboard.

If you plug the ac adapter into a wall outlet and get no green light then that means the ac adapter is bad and you would need to get another one.

hi bro what u need to do is ... understand when u plug in the ac adapter the light on the ac adapter goes off and whne u unhoook it it comes on .. right there is a possible static charge in the mobo bcoz of which the ac current is nt able to flo on thru the wires to the motherboard .. what u can do is turn ur laptop off completely unhook the ac adpter and take off the battery as well press the power button for 15 sec press and hold it do this xcersice .. hook every thing up and try to charge the battery again it should work .....second possible thing can be may be the connectors on the mobo can be bad on the pin in the prong on the ac adpter must be twisted ,,, so check for that as well ...if still no go then either problem with the onboard power connector on mother board or the whole mother board power aseembly IE replace the mobo ....

Asus ac adapter will not wrk green light on adapter

First check the wall socket make sure you are getting power, plug a lamp into it for instance. If there is no green light on the adapter then it is bad and you will need to order a new one from your computer manufactor.

Charger for E1705 beeps and no green light

If, when not plugged into the system, only the wall, the AC adapter LED doesn't come on and the adapter beeps, then it has failed and will require replecement. If the computer is still under warranty, the adapter is covered under the warranty.

If not covered under warranty, then buy a new AC adapter.

If the LED comes on when not plugged into the system, but goes out when connected to the portable, then the motherboard may be bad.
