Auto focus makes noise? Its been jarred outa position or tiny mirror behind main mirror outa alignment.
AF silent? AF module needs replaced = repair shop.
Considering what you'll pay for the repair, buy another Maxxum on Ebay for less and give the 5000 to a repair guy for parts to repair others.
That generates goodwill with the repair guy. Maybe a discount on a future repair, and get you a newer Maxxum with better AF, more features, less weight, it will use all your current stuff except flash, and you'll save $$ over the repair price.
Look for a 500xi, 700 xi, 50, 70, 5, XTsi or HTsi.
Your Minolta QTsi Maxxum takes a Konika Minolta AF lens. These lenses work on these Konika Minolta DSLR cameras:
DYNAX 5D / Maxxum 5D
DYNAX 7D / Maxxum 7D
You have a film camera, you should have AF lenses. The AF lenses are larger round then older manual lense as you can have the older Minolta lens will fit the newer cameras, just not auto focus. If your AF is not working with AF lenses, I will assume you have power to the camera (batteries) These camera are not hard to use. To AF the camera, press the shutter down slightly (you can try without film) and it should focus on the center of your shot. Indoor and under low light, they will have trouble with these older AF bodies.
I had the same problem with a maxxum 7000. Traced it to a bit of corrosion in the battery pack. It let just enough power through to run the computer, but upon releasing the shutter, it shut off.
You might check that. corrosion can be cleaned with vinegar.
Is there a micro focus switch on the lens
On my lens if switch to Micro Mode the Auto focus is disabled, Also it is a stupid question but you are using a AF lens and not a xi series or manual focus lens.
