All you really have to do is put in the ink color you want and run a bunch of prints. Going from a light to dark color like black is fast--like about 3000 prints. Black to light color is going to be a lot more prints. Best is to print something with heavy ink. the more ink you put out the fast it will change color.
you need to open the front cover (where drum and toner is installed) and press the options button, it will ask replace drum? Press 1 for yes and close the front cover.
I am not sure what kind of printer this is, but see if there is a reset menu for the drum. also the manufacturer website might have some info on how to reset the drum counter.
To change the drum you have to slide the plattened cover to the left,like you do when removing a paper jam,open the top cover,you will see a handle that you pull to remove the defeloping and drum unit,remove the drum and def unit.
The drum is attached by two clips on top of def unit,unlock the drum from the def by releasing that clips,slide te drum protecktion plate to the rear and remove the drum.insert the new drum by reversing this steps.
If your image of your copies is not bad you can remove the waste toner in the drum unit before replacing it.On top of the drum there are two plugs open them and remove the waste toner,make sure you remove all of the waste toner.Then that message will go away.

This machine is reset with a plastic sheet that come in the new drum unit. When the drum is inserted for the first time, the sheet slides out and trip the exit sensor in a certain way. Then the counter is cleared. If you still have this clear plastic sheet, then you can reinsert it into the top of the drum unit and try it again.
The drum is where the image is applied before being transfer to the paper. If the drum is wearing down the image will become poor. Changing the drum unit will make the image like new. So, yes you can run the drum catridge until you get a poor print out.
