BLUE STREAKS AND YELLOW TINT describes almost perfectly a bad optical light engine--no do it yourself repair and engine is well over 600 dollar part exchange.
The shutdown may or may not be related but it does not matter--time for another (in my view) TV.
The Optical Block is causing the problem. Due to the cost of replacing it you may want to price new sets. Average cost of repair would be $1200.00 to $1500.00. You may want to see if Hitachi would help with repairs. Their customer service line is 1800-448-2244.
I hope this helps,

Hi:
The only way to repair this is to replace the optics engine assembly, Light engines are rather cheap these days, try looking on www.tristatemodule.com for a new or refurbished one.
it cost $600 to relpace the part... all 3 colors red yellow blue,.... tech took the part out and will replace it in about 3 or 4 days.
I was told by technician that it was a very very good tV in fact he said he would buy it from me for $300 and take it away.. I am considering that ... but a new one with Picture in picuture will be 2000 or more
