I have a technics sl-pd887 5disk changer that just recently skips all the time. I have taken the cover off the unit and cleaned the lazer with alcohol and a Q-tip and still the cd's skip
I contacted a friend who operates a sterio shop and was convinced that fifteen years of bouncing up and down has made the laser unable to focus and read the info on the disks and the solution is to buy another one . Thanks for you're interest.

Ok, it sound to me that the laser lens which actually reads the cd's has some dirt particles on it.
There is a very cheap method of solving this problem. Just go to any cd shop and buy yourself a decent laser lens cleaner disc, follow the instructions and you should be set.
This is straightforward. You have to ensure that the disk is stopped by pressing the square symbolled button then press disk skip once or twice and open the tray. Presto (if it is working correctly)
See page 11 of the manual (link below), just press "program" to cancel. Even though you can clear the mode the program will remain. The only way I know of clearing it completely is to remove power from the unit for an extended time.
