My Fellowes shredder DM17Cs won't stop running unless shut off
I have a Fellowes paper shredder, model DM17Cs. It shreds fine but it no longer stops running when I put paper through. How do I get it to stop running without having to shut it off??

It sounds as if the SafeSense is improperly shutting of the forward sensor. Call Fellowes and see if they can help.

I just had this problem with my shredder. I think the problem started with a bin that was full. Running the shredder in reverse resulted in shredded paper being pulled up into the slot used to feed paper into the shredder. Some of this shredded paper was blocking the little plastic tab that activates the switch when paper is inserted, so the shredder would no longer start when paper was inserted. I emptied the bin and removed the shredded paper from the feed slot, being careful not to break the plastic "sensor" while removing the paper from under it. The shredder works fine now.

I have taken many shredders apart and found them so clogged up with shreds of paper and too much oil will turn into paper mud.Be bold and take the top off and clean it out. Unplug the power source and when removing the top , be careful because their will be a short cable connecting the top to the circuit board. Easy to damage.
OK lets try. You likely have a photo sensor that detects the paper and it is dirty. It is likely covered with paper dust (hopefully only on the outside) Locate the sensor and wipe it off or just wipe the entire throat area. WITH MACHINE OFF Hope this helps
The paper sensor is stuck, actually a pretty common problem with many auto shredders. Basically the sensor for auto shredding thinks that there is still paper in the unit so it won't shut off. This can easily be caused by shred debris. Shooting some compressed air into the unit may help but usually it requires a bit more effort. Sadly, these guys can be quite hazardous to repair so I would not really suggest trying to open the unit unless you really know what you are doing.
