Simple things,: Mute button isn't on? Is it in the TV mode or are you using an external input like a Cable box?

The only quick fix that comes to mind is to go to the "audio settings" in the menu and verify it is set for "internal" and if it is not retrun it to internal. Often this gets switched accidentally to external and there will be no sound without an external amp/speaker system. If you have already checked this, I apoligize for stating the obvious.

Sound suddenly stopped on my lg tv

The Video (Picture) is SEPERATE from the Audio component of the TV. One can work when the other has gone south. From what I see, the Audio controller board may have been damaged somehow and needs to be replaced. Contact a serviceman for details.

Xbox elite connected to TV thru HDMI works fine, but connected via bcs-fs500 receiver = no audio or video Cable tv through receiver works fine Have tried cable tv through receiver inputs HDMI 1 and 2...

Hook your Xbox to tv via HDMI, then hook TV to reciever through digital optical or composite cables. If you try to get your picture through receiver first, you may get picture and sound but, sound may be delayed and picture might not be the best. Bettter to run through tv first then provide sound to receiver.

yes you need to connect audio out from the tv to audio in on the dvd surround. you need the red/white phono to phono leads, simply connect together and select audio (av,au) on the input selection.
