What type of external drive do you have and what are you using to perform the synchronization? What type of sync schedule are you on? Is it time based, or upon connection or other activity? Have you change your folder arrangement or relocated the pictures on the source drive?

Proper or Best way to use my newly installed WD SATA external Hard Drive;

The files are placed on the drive by you. Unless someone setup a special application files will not automatically migrate to another drive. You would not generally want them to because they would never be where you left them and be much harder to find. Primarily you will want to be moving data files and not application files (unless you uninstall from the internal drive and reinstall to the external drive) You can open my computer and find both drives -- you can drag/drop folders (containing only data, mp3s, videos, etc) between drives. I always like to check these moves by doing a right mouse click selecting properties on each folder separately to assure that an equal number of folders and files were copied before deleting them off of the smaller drive.

I emphasize again moving programs in this fashion will cause them to break. If you have large and seldom used applications you can uninstall them then using the installation process and media provided by the manufacturer then reinstall them choosing the external drive as the destination..

I hope this helps.

I mistakly delete my pictures

All your pictures are saved on the memory card of your digital camera automatically. So you can recover your deleted pictures from memory card with third party data recovery software.I have a professional program on my computer that can recover data after deeply scanning your memory card to look for lost data you accidentally deleted or formatted. By the way,you can download it and scan your memory card for free to preview whether your erased pictures can be recovered. Get it from http://www.any-data-recovery.com

My external hand drive started buzzing every couple seconds and now cant be recognized. Is there anyway I can fix this to recover 6 yrs of saved pictures and music

I have the same exact hard drive. At times, it can be detected. Sometimes, it can not.
Try to get another usb cable and wait a little longer for it to be recognized by the computer.
I waited for about 10 minutes before I can get access to my files.

How does a external hard drive work, and does it make my computer run better, I have purchased one but I am confused on how it works.

An external Hard drive is used to store information in any format. Ususally it is connected to USB, but it may happen that it is connected to either e-sata, which is the fastest or firewire.
when connector is inserted into the socket (USB, e-sata, firewire) Windows will automatically detect it. You can find your external Hard drive in My Computer, normally labeled removable drive. You can then double click it to access the information on the drive, or copy information to the drive. This means you can easily make a back up of all your files. Now if you so wish you can store it for backup purposes or you can use it to transfer information, contained on it, to another Computer/Laptop. An external Hard drive does not make your computer faster, but it does in a sense make your computer perform better,as it takes away the need for that data to be stored of your main boot hard drive. Therefore making virus scans on your PC run quicker and your PC has more space on it's main boot hard drive to perform tasks if it needs to.

Please rate my expertise, it's the thumbs up on the top right hand side of this solution.
Thanks

I just plugged it in and can't figure out how to save files on it. Please help.

1. check to see if the drive shows in the "my computer" window as a new drive letter or USB drive. If it does then....
2. Click and drag the data to that drive or in the "files" drop down menu click on "save as" then locate the drive in the save as drop down and save your data to that drive.
You will have to have 2 widows up to do so.

My maxtor external hard drive has stopped working. There is a chance that you can recover data using a USB to IDE or SATA Adapter Cable to recover your data they cost about $30 if you cant get hard drive to power with adapter chances are it has crashed there are places that can get data off hard drive but they are very pricey hope this helps.

U can remove the drive from the external unit and hook it up to your vista computer as a secondary drive. Boot up the vista, use windows explorer, and transfer the data from the secondary drive to either your primary or a usb stick.
