I have a lenmarx x5150 printer and have no manual with instructions.How do I use it and replace ink?

Your cartridges may need cleaning. This article in the Lexmark website on How to Unblock (Clean) the Cartridge Nozzles might help you. You can also clean the nozzles using the printer operator panel, press Options -> Cartridges -> Clean -> Select. Or manually: How to Clean the Print Cartridge Nozzles and Contacts Manually.

Follow the instructions carefully. By the way, in some cases, the ink cartridge carrier doesn't move in the loading position even when the printer is on when you lift the scanner unit open. If that happens, unplug the printer from the power source. With the scanner unit open, hold the solid white tape you see in the printer. Slowly slide the cartridge carrier to the center for easy access. Replace the cartridges. Close the cover, close the scanner unit. Plug the printer back to the power source. Hope this helps. It shows color cartridge is missing because either the cartridge is not well placed or it is not there.

When you try to run the Clean option from the Ink Cartridge menu, the following message may appear: Hardware Error 0504.

To resolve this issue:

1. Take both cartridges out of the printer.
2. Switch off the printer using the power button.
3. Disconnect the power cable from the back of the Lexmark X5150.
4. Leave the power cable disconnected for 30 seconds.
5. Reconnect the power cable and switch the printer on again.
6. Reinstall the cartridges. (Follow the instructions on the LCD screen or refer to the following document: How to Install the Cartridges in the Lexmark X5150)
   

the lexmark ink station mechanism wont allow you to use a differnt ink..try to use lexmark ink or else printer will go bad.

Your ink cartridges have dried out. Replace the black to confirm this prognostication and, if black works, replace color also. If you are into refilling ink cartridges youself try soaking the black one in 91% rubbing alcohol in a small ziploc type bag for several days. when the alcohol becomes ink colored, remove the cartridge from the baggie, dry it with tissue paper, reinstall it in the printer and up to 3 times run a clean the nozzles page until it prints a solid black line. Repeat with the color cartridge. Good luck.
