Samsung Star GT 5233: Memory Full even though only 500 messages total, some on internal flash, external flash, and SIM:
Hello.
Please note that individual posted messages (sender and receiver) in all your 279 threads counts towards the total text messages stored in Memory.
The way it works is all the text messages saved is loaded in memory, doesn't matter where they are saved to.. if they are all loaded to Memory, readable, listed and searchable on the phone under your text messaging app.. they are loaded in Memory every time the text messaging app is booted up with the phone's other system resources. You don't necessarily have to open the app for all that to remain in RAM
Whatever is on the phone takes up precious RAM memory. Depending on how much RAM your system resources takes up, along with all the applications you installed, and the text messages database.. Your phone can only handle so much, until it starts to slow down, act a little crazy, possibly crash here and there, or keep saying you are out of memory.
Your Samsung Star GT 5233 has a total of 50 MB of RAM memory. That's not a whole lot. In fact, I'm amazed you are able to see 500 text messages on your phone.
Modern Android Smartphones have 1-3 GB of RAM memory.. their text messaging app can handle a total of 2000 text messages before the phone starts to slow down. Many people go beyond this max to up to 10,000+ text messages and they wonder why their high end smartphone is operating so slow. Most of the time, this is why.
If you can, backup or delete some of your historical text messages, to free up more RAM so that your phone can function properly without crashing.

That's because this phone shares memory.
Go to your inbox and delete all the SMS you have on it. Voilá! You now can receive SMS. Or you may delete a few mp3's, this also will work fine.
I have a similar problem with my LG LGA 380 Flip Phone, since I got it on 8/01/15. It says "485 Texts" in Memory, but when I add up all the Texts I sent or received, it's only like 279. So there is a 206 Text Discrepancy. The only thing I can think of is that there is some part of Text Message Memory devoted to "System" files.
It's like when my USB Stick Drive is listed as 8 Gigabytes (GB), but it's never really 8 WHOLE GB of usable space. You usually get 7.5 GB of usable space, since the "System" needs 500 MB of space for "System" Files. But I don't care, since it will take me about 40 years to fill up the 7.5 GB, and then I'll be 101 years old!
But on the PHONE, I DO care!
Hello. Please remember that the posts within each thread counts against the total number of text messages.
LG LGA380 Flip phone has a total of 256MB of RAM. This amount is used by your system resources, any applications you installed, photo galleries, data/file directories, text messages, etc.
It's always best to off load (save/backup) or delete any text messages on a phone regularly if you want it to keep running in tip top shape. ~cheers :)
