Hello and thank you for using Fixya's services.

I am not an expert in this field but I did have the same exact problem and called a service technician. There was huge block of ice in the back panel of the freezer.

Get everything out of the freezer and take the panel off the back (inside of freezer) with a screwdriver. Look by the fan and check the bottom to see if there is a build up of ice. You can pry it off or take the blowdryer to it.

Please take precaution when doing this and I would unplug the fridge just to be on the safe side.

We paid $180.00 for someone to do this....if I would have known...lol. The technician did tell us we would need to replace the fan eventually but we haven't yet. I would say that it hums (loudly) every six months and we (my husband) have to repeat the steps above.

Hope this helps!

Freezer side is making an extremely loud humming sound. Ice maker is working fine. No ice buildup anywhere in the freezer that we can see. Loud humming goes on for a few minutes each hour.

Hey Joanne, I appreciate your inquiry!

Based off my understanding the freezer side of your Frigidaire refrigerator is making a loud humming noise. The humming sound could be coming from your compressor. If the sound is a new development it may be a possible issue with the fan pushing further against the wall. You may need to seek help from a professional technician for proper diagnosis and repair. This will help you from purchasing any unnecessary parts. Hope this information is helpful to you. -Matt

Loud humming noise coming from fridge

sounds like the evap fan is hitting something.. or is loose and making noise... I would remove the cover in front of the fan and take motor out and reinstall it making sure all washers and grommets are in place...but I would look for ice build up first, this could indicate a defrost problem..... hope this helped ken

Whirlpool Side by Side. Husband replaced fan motor inside freezer. Ever since it's been replaced, it runs frequently and hums loudly. Any suggestions. He took the interior back out and it doesn't hum.

The fan blade touching the interior back cover????

May be the fan motor shaft is too long or may be he did not push the fan blade well inside into shaft so it is to much out. Thus touching the wall cover plate..????

My samsung fridge/freezer is only 3 years old, just started making loud noise, then when the fridge is opened sounds like the fan making a loud noise that goes down and stops. Then not long after that...

Compressors usually make a thrumming/humming noise, so yes, this sounds like the fan. It could be something touching the fan blades, like ice or a wire. If you can unplug the fridge and remove panels near the fan, you may discover the problem.

Frigidaire side by side freezer - LOUD noise...

It sounds like the evaporator fan is hitting ice that is built up on the evaporator coil. When it's making the noise, open the freezer door and see if it stops.
(Most models are wired so that the evaporator fan cuts off when the freezer door is open.)
Check the inside back, lower panel of the freezer for ice built up or frost on it. If there is, you have a defrost problem that is most likley a bad heater. It's located around the coil inside the freezer behind the panel you will be looking at. The defrost problem would explain the freezer not freezing ice cream.

Loud humming noise as fridge is running

if you have ice buildup then the fridge may be low on freon.
or there is dust clogging around the pump or fan is not running.
remove the bottom or back and look around the compressor.
see that the fan is running.
