When I connect my player to the PC, I can see the files in Windows explorer, but I cannot see any files on the player.
I have disconnected the HD and the battery and reconnected them and still have this issue.
I would be willing to format the HD, but when I click on the button in the recovery utility I get the message "make sure the proper software is installed".
Sorry if I wasn't clear. I can see the files in XP & Vista. I can't see anything on the player. Would be willing to format, but am unable to do that.Sorry if I wasn't clear. I can see the files in XP & Vista. I can't see anything on the player. Would be willing to format, but am unable to do that.

Firstly, if your player is strictly an MP3 player, it will not play videos. MP3 is a music file format. The generic/umbrella term for video files is MP4 (MP4 is just one video format, but is not the only one).
To download files from your PC to your player, hook up the player to a USB port on your PC using the USB cable that came with the player. Once connected , the player will show up in Windows file explorer as a removable drive. Copy and paste the files you want to download on that removable drive using Windows file explorer or Windows Media Player or iTunes

what operating system is your computer.XP is the operating system recommended but you need windows media player 10.If you have them both you can move/sync files thru Windows Media Player(WMP) but they have to have a drm licence.
If you've got Windows® 98SE, ME, or 2000 Professional.
5 just connect it, find My computer and you should see the player listed, double click and the files should be visible.
I would check your friend's operating system to see what he/she used and if any problems occurred.
MTP” mode will only work, when your player is connected to Microsoft® Windows® XP and Windows® Media Player 10.
The MP3 Player will only work in “USB” mode when it is connected to Windows® 98SE, ME, or 2000 Professional.

Its pretty straight forward and I have included directions below but be sure to check out your user manual here. There are some pretty neat things your player can do that my iPod cant (like record songs from any FM radio station. Pretty awesome).
1. connect the USB cable that came with your player to the mini USB port at the bottom of the player and the other end into your PC. Note: The player will start to charge as soon as you connect it.
2. The player appears as a USB mass storage device in Windows Explorer. Simply go to your desktop or the start button and click on MY COMPUTER. You will see your phillips as drive e:/ (most likely)
3. Open a new Windows Explorer window that holds your music files.
4. Simply highlight, then drag and drop the songs into your device.
When you connect this via the usb cable to you computer you should be able to see it as a separate device in windows explorer. Alternatively if you access windows media player you should be able to see the device on the bottom right hand side. Get windows media player to scan for all you music files. After a while it will show you the music files. YOu can then drag the files you want to your music player.
Sorry if I wasn't clear. I can see the files in XP & Vista. I can't see anything on the player. Would be willing to format, but am unable to do that.
