My Inspiron 531 has vista os. recently, i had to reinstall the vista os as my boot files became corrupt. Since i reinstalled the os, i also had to reinstall all of the apps, including the HP Photosmart C5180. I am able to print but, before i reinstalled the os, i was able to see an icon (that i made as a shortcut to the desktop) that was a picture of a scanner for the HP Photosmart C5180. Now, since reinstalling the os, i can only print--i need the scanning ability as I use this often to create attachemnts that i send via email to my work. Why can't i find the icon--i looked under the control panel--was unable to see it either under the printer of scanner/cameras icon
please help as i need to be able to scan from my HP Photosmart C5180

You would need to download the software for your printer again and then install it on your computer. You can download it from here. Once it is installed, look for the scanner icon or HP Director which would have scanner icon.
