DVD copies stop playing after 30 minutes

All DVD copies (not originals) stop playing after exactly 30 minutes, picture freezes and recorder has to be restarted. Buzzing sound increases closer to 30 minutes. Looks like copy protection but this is stupid to do in this way. Could try to update firmare from Samsung but how do you do that? File ends with UTF extension and Samsung give no help.

if gear is broke why original play ok?

  • Jules61 Jan 11, 2008

The disc is not scratched. After switching off for 1 hour I can restart, move to the same scene and watch from there on. Tried different copies of different titles and all stop after 30 minutes of movie even if fast forward to say, 10 mins. Originals play OK. Buzzing seems to come from dvd part, not from hard disk because switching to Hard disk stops buzzing. Thanks for your help.

Sounds like a gear is broke moving the transverse motor

is it scratching the disc? do you know where the buzzing is comming from?

  • Anonymous Jan 11, 2008

ohhhh >>>> move to the same scene and watch from there on.
I would say then you have something heating up most likely power supply.
I would buy a can of freeze at radio shack and spay it while it happens see if you can isolate it. most likely a part that has a heat sink.

I have a Panasonic DMR-EZ48 it will play for a short time then it freezes up and the only way I can un freeze it is to press and hold the power button for 30 sec then it will play but repeats the problem....

Is the media a commercial CD/DVD? Some copies made on another recorder or computer do not work well with devices other that one the copy was made from. In short, the angle of the read head may differ from the Panasonic DMR.

I have a samsung dvd-v4600...and when i put the dvd disc in it just keeps loading and will not load ..what do i do to fix this?

Hi,
Does it do with original DVD or copied DVD ?.
if the original one works fine but the others not, your DVD may not capable of playing copy -R/RW discs..even though your DVD specs says: Plays DVD-Video, video-mode DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW, CD-R/CD-RW, MP3 CD, Kodak Picture CD, and JPEG image CDs, sometimes this happens due to bad recording of DVD .Try to use better recorded DVD or if possible use the original ones..
Thanks in advance for rating me..Regards

On one particular DVD (UP from Disney/Pixar) a certain section keeps repeating. When I stop the DVD to try accessing the root menu it freezes up and the entire sound bar locks. The only way to resolve this...

Those discs have a very strong copy protection mechanism to avoid making digital copies on PC systems but some DVD players won't play them because of that, if you have the original movie, download a copy from the internet, burn it to a dvd-r disc and play it. It's perfectly legal because you already bought the movie. The downloaded copies have no copy protection and will play better than the original.
The PHILIPS DVD-Home theater players are specially picky about non-standar disk like the one you're trying to watch.

I have recorded a TV programme to the Hard Drive. However - I started recording manually and forgot to stop recording. So I have a recording 30 hours long! I want to copy the first 90 minutes to a DVD....

I used the edit function. I fast forwarded to the end of the section I wanted to record. I then stop the fast forward and used the split function. This split the original recording into two parts - the first 1hr 38min which I wanted to keep and the rest. It saved as two files and I was able to copy the first part to DVD and discard the rest.

Recorded DVD disc freezes up on a different DVD player

hey ,
recommendation, the disc may have an internal scratch. (meaning when its played there might be a bump or something on it unseen by the human eye)

or you can stop being cheap. and get a new one

DVD stops recording after about 30 seconds

If the take up reel is not working properly the slack in tape drive will cause poor recordings and shut downs.
