I have a new generation nano. It just all of a sudden stopped working. It will not come on anymore and the battery is fully charged. I've tried charging it with the AC and USB chargers.

My nano just turned itself off and refused to cooperate. I tried resetting like whatever858 mentioned. I got a response after holding buttons for 10 secs. It was just an Apple and wouldn't do anything else. Several tries later, I gave up. Within a few seconds, it's back on like nothing ever happened.

You need to hold down the middle button and the MENU (or up key) at the same time for about ten seconds.
(It worked for me)

Have you tried resetting it?

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61705

Also look here:

Since it is new and still under warranty, I would get in touch with Apple. If it is dead, they will replace it.

Ok I have one of the new IPOD NANO's I think. Its the really small one that has the LCD screen and a clip on the back. I had the same problem with it. What i did was plugged it up to the computer. Then i held down all 3 buttons on the top. (the only buttons on this IPOD) I held them down and it started up in a different mode with a bunch of different options. On top you will see "Standby" Click on "Standby" and it will shut off again but now you can turn it back on like normal. Let me know if it helped. Thanks Jon

If your iPod nano will not turn on:
1) plug in for ten minutes
2) while still plugged in press and hold the home, power, and button between volume until Apple symbol appears

Absolutely thank you soooo much for this solution. I thought I had lost all my music and my ipod, as many of the songs are loaded by CDs from an older computer. I am going now to back up all the music. All I had to do was press the menu and centre button at the same time for about 10 seconds. You are a rockstar aiges303

SOURCE: ipod nano - stopped working - will not come on anymore

Do the 5 R's suggested in the user's manual first. If those fail, then the player has an internal problem and needs to be replaced.

hold the menu and select button for six seconds and pray it works, otherwise it may be a software malfunction.

The new ipod nano

How old is it? if it's under warranty apple may fix it.
Simply, if you charge your iPod through you computer then the battery could be damaged. USB ports only put out 5 volts. If you have an AC charger that puts out 9.5 volts then consider charging it with that. Some AC adapters only put out 5 volts for the purpose matching the USB standard, but it's not good for the ipod.

I turned on my Ipod nano and it froze..

Refer to your manual for the details - A simple reset will probably work. Running Mp3 players on low batt can cause all sorts of goofiness.

Remember these five basic suggestions if you have a problem with your iPod nano. If
one of the following doesn’t help, read on for solutions to specific problems.
â Reset your iPod nano. See “General Suggestions,” below.
â Retry with a different USB port if you cannot see iPod nano in iTunes.
â Restart your computer and make sure you have the latest software updates
installed.
â Reinstall iPod and iTunes software from the latest versions on the web.
â Restore your iPod nano. See “Updating and Restoring iPod Software” on page whatever.
